Cheapest car you ever bought.

About 5 years ago, high winds brought down a tree in the front street, which landed on my car, writing it off.

Having only TPFT at the time (never again will I have TPFT ), I was stuck without essential transport, and very little money to get some.

I finished up with a battered old Mini, which I bought for, get this, £65.

I ran it for about 5 months, until it expired about a fortnight before the MOT (which it wouldn't have passed in a million years) ran out.

I needed the holes in the floor, so I could brake with my feet.

The Mini had an anchor.

This is getting silly.

I sold it for scrap 4 weeks later, was worried about the Thames River overflowing.

My husband had a little Peugeot 205 he bought a few years ago for £30 - he just used it to go to work and back for a few months until it finally died. He then got a Fiesta for £50 which still had 6 months tax on it so effectively cost nowt - that went on to pass an MOT with few problems and was passed on to a family friend who'd just passed her test

With little old bangers as long as they're roadworthy it's often easy to pick them up for silly money as most scrapyards now charge to take them. The main problem is that my husband collects cars like some people collect stamps

I swapped a rubbish £15 guitar for a 1964 VW Beetle that was in perfect order.. (off someone who'd lost their licence) we had it for about a year before we lost it in a head-on with a diesel Transit

Yup and all of them driven home too.
Then again I twirl the spanners, so apart from guffed gearboxes I can fix most things if I can be asked.

I remember an episode of Top Gear, where Jeremy Clarkson bought a car for a pound.

My first car was a standard 8 which cost me £35. The gearbox went on the Exeter bypass. The recovery vehicle came along and said that a repair would be more than the car was worth. I still agree. He didn't charge me for the call out as two of the tryes were quite good.

He gave me a biro with the name of the garage on

Someone bought me a car for £10 off the Internet.

It went 5mph but if you fit inside it, you'd actually be doing about 150mph!

I once made the mistake of giving away my M reg Astra Estate for free because I thought it would cost too much to get it through the MOT. For a stop-gap I bought a Metro with 12 mths MOT for £75 - and kept it for a year. But during that year I was frequently overtaken by my old Astra, which I later found out passed the MOT first time.
