Which toilets should tranvesites go into?
By this i mean the male dressing as female transvestites and not the other way round (although i can't see it happening the other way round really lol).
Should they go in female or male? If they want to be women then they should go into female toilets. Women don't like men seeing them not at their best and in the toilets so thats why men aren't allowed in but surely if they're women on the inside and they are gay men on the outside, it shouldn't matter, should it? |

Most Transvestites are actually straight men. Transvestites just enjoy dressing in female clothing to some degree.
If you are talking about Transexuals who actually want to become women then yes of course they should use the female toilets. |

A woman (who used to be a man) at my old work had a key for her own toilet
Seemed a bit off at the time, but I suppose it's awkward to go into the ladies and vice versa. |

If on a night out they would surely go to the mens because the queue for the ladies would be quite large I would expect.

If they are a transsexual woman (either pre or post-op) then they should go in the female bathrooms. That's my opinion anyways. |

If she (or he) has completed transition, but doesn't have a GRC for whatever reason, technically she would be required to go to a men's prison (or he to a women's prison), although in practice this doesn't happen; the Courts tend to use common sense where the person is post-surgery. It's a bit more of a nightmare for a transsexual person who hasn't had any surgery though. (Edit; I'm right here, Bookends...sorry for keeping you waiting... )

This is the perennial question for trans people...which toilet do you, or should you, use? The simple answer is, if you're presenting as female, whether you're transsexual or a transvestite, you should use the female toilets; if you're presenting as male, you use the male toilets. This of course is complicated if you aren't sufficiently convincing in your presentation; if you don't 'pass', people can get quite upset, sometimes violently. If anyone objects, the safe thing to do is to apologise and leave; it's really not worth provoking someone by pointing out that legally, anyone can use any public toilet, regardless of gender, sex, or sexuality. Many transsexual people (and some transvestites) use disabled facilities in public, to avoid this issue (I have a RADAR/NKS key myself, although I don't really need it anymore ). Disabled toilets are considered gender-neutral (You can still get abuse though, when a clearly able-bodied person waltzes out of a disabled loo in front of a waiting wheelchair-user, for instance...) |

I might have to apologise to you though. Although I think I may have just about managed to correct my heinous spelling mistake before you spotted it. On both posts as well... *cringe*

...but I've heard about how a certain spelling error has you sitting firmly on your hands and I didn't want to be responsible for any dislocated fingers or anything. Good to hear you've got it under control though.

I did inadvertantly wander into the gents down my local pub on one memorable occasion... I was in no fit state to check out the decor at the time though. There was quite a queue outside by the time my cousin managed to actually get me to understand I was in the wrong one and escort me back out though. The bar staff still remind me about that almost 7 years later.

I'm pretty sure this girl had her surgery, it was because she worked there as a man and people were uncomfortable with it, I felt it was a bit insulting to her myself. |

It's not uncommon for a transperson to use separate/disabled toilet facilities for a while at the start of transition;it's a question of discretion and resolving other people's discomfort. It should always be with her (or his) agreement though, and it shouldn't be regarded as a permanent arrangement. |
