Why don't they just rebuild the twin towers?

The NYC Twin towers... just rebuild them, that would show terrorists we won't be bullied by terroism.

Just build them to exact spec, maybe add some improvements, and call them The Twin Towers II, in memory of all those who died (except the terrorists).

Ok. That might be a bit disrespectful to American families, who lost loved ones in the 9/11 attacks.

This would be the last thing on my mind to post.

Yeah we should ban planes too.

And never cook whatever meals the families were eating when they found out they had lost their loved ones.

And cars too, thousands are killed on the road each year.

It's quite stupid and repetitive to build the exact same thing over again. With so many architects and civil engineers, i'm sure that there are more interesting ideas and buildings that can be done.

Why don't they re-build the Titanic then?

I believe one of the reasons is because the ground and bedrock the towers were build on was damaged by the collapse and is no longer strong enough to support two towers, at least not to modern safety standards.

Also worth noting that the WTC was in real trouble before it's collapse financially - there was simply too much office space in that area of New York already and rents were falling through the floor. It would not be a great monument to anti-terrorism to have them get half way through building it and have everyone involved go bankrupt and leave the project unfinished.

Can you imagine if they were to re build them? I doubt very much that anyone would want to set foot inside them for fear of them getting targeted again.

Maybe there have, but not the Titanic. I think if they did re-build the twin towers, It might be more of target for terrorists.

By re-building to a newer design, aren't they just saying "life moves on and building-design just develops" ?

If they were rebuilt to the same design, it would be really creepy. That crosshatch effect used for the exterior has become synomynous with 9/11 and seeing it all again would upset too many people.

We? Who's this "we"?

The people who would have the money to do that aren't interested what people on a foreign messageboards have to say, I wouldn't think.

They already considered that but personally I think such a scheme would be quite disturbing to be fair.

Where do people get the idea that terrorists give a flying f for such 'messages' and symbolism.
Terrorists are human too and know all about human nature and just getting on with things.

Then again I couldn't give a S what they do there unless it's interesting architecturally.

The design of the two towers* which contributed to their fast collapse is probably something that won't be used again. Without that they would never have been economical so a rebuild would be out of the question.

Also who would want to work in such an infamous, tragic place? I believe there is a project to re-create the towers virtually

* with a central core and the rest of the supporting beams on the outside, the core and exterior walls being trussed together. They were effectively big metal tubes with big pillar-less floors, totally diffrent to a traditional steel frame building

I liked that Frankie Boyle joke on 'Mock The Week'.......

"Instead of re-building the Twin Towers, why don't they just build a runway.......how pissed off would the terrorists be when they swoop in to commit a terrorist strike and instead have to do a perfect landing"........

Haha, i actually remember that comment, but very rarely watch that show. Crazy.

You need an office the size of one of those WTC buildings to keep all DS score prediction stats, Terrence.

I don't think the new design is that great. I would have liked to have seen the old towers again.

The OP needs to get a life and he needs to stop being disrespectful to people who have lost loved ones.

Its like if YOUR family were killed and if their house got burnt down, would you really want to live there again?
