Bob Monkhouse back again to front cancer campaign

'Old school' funnyman Bob Monkhouse, who died four years ago from prostate cancer, has been brought back from the grave (via modern technology, not voodoo!) to front a prostate cancer awareness campaign.

You can see the ad here

I wondered if Bob would have any relevance to today's viewers, but looking at the information on the site, prostate cancer is rare in men under 45, so I'm sure he'll still be familiar to the target audience.

That's a very ghoulish advert, although I suppose it gets the message across! Bob Monkhouse was a genius IMO.

His wife Jackie gave her blessing and is Ok with it. A little bemused perhaps, but OK with it. If it saves one more life...

I'm in two minds about this - in one way it's very well done and raises awareness; on the other hand, watching it on channel 5 news just now, it seems a bit macabre.

Kind of makes me wonder "what next?" - Oliver Reed doing an anti alcohol ad, or Roy Castle doing an anti smoking one?

I actually think it's a good advert and I don't find it ghoulish. I grant you it is different but the whole point of it is that it grabs your attention.

I saw the ad on TV this morning - definitely a little on the creepy side, but maybe it will shock any man into going to the docs if they are worried!

Slightly strange to watch but a good advert for a good cause. I don't find it weird at all. Nice to see Bob again...well sort of!

It's good to raise more awareness of a condition which is often overlooked, despite it being as common as breast cancer.

I started a thread on TV forum. It seems strange seeing Bob looking at his own grave, perhaps they could make a series of ads with dead comics, Spike Milligan, Peter Cook, Ronnie Barker etc. Don't know what they'd advertise tho'

They could do this with other illnesses such as Dusty Springfield for breast cancer, etc

I think its a good Ad
I like the use of the graveyard imagery. It needs to be fairly hard hitting to get through to men in the over 40's category and grab their attention and I think the humour works well

The only thing I am not so keen on is the voice. I am trying to work out which impressionist it is as I can hear them when he says
"What killed me, kills one man per hour in Britain"
That line does not sound like Bob to me.

Hmm - overall the effects are very good, but a couple of the lines don't sound quite like Bob.

Not quite seamless But good anyhow.
I miss seeing bob on our screens, much better than the gameshow hosts we have nowadays.

It's surprising that he's been gone for over three years already.

Just watched the advert on the website. It looks a bit wierd, but it certainly get's the message across. It sounded like Rory Bremer to me who does/did a very good impression of Bob Monkhouse or it could be John Coulshaw.

Juat seen a repost about it on the news which showed clips of the advert.

When I first read about it my immediate reaction was one of incertainty and that, were it an advert for anything other than it is, rather distasteful. However having seen bits of it I think it is a good, valid, hard hitting advert which, hopefully, will make men think about their health. Wierd, yes, but it works.

I hope it helps to save lives

That should, of course, read "report" not "repost". Curse my rubbish typing skills!

I know what you mean; it seems a little strange and almost ghoulish on first viewing, but at least people will perhaps sit up and take notice of it!
