I went to Alton Towers once when it was raining really hard - I think a few of the rides were closed, but most of them were open, I think.

Most of the big rides stay open unless rain will adversely effect a rides operation.

If it does rain, go straight for Nemesis. It runs even faster when the tracks are nice and wet!

I wouldn't worry too much.
If the forecast says rain I'd take shorts and a t shirt personally.
They are never right

Rain is brilliant for crowd control. People won't go and people who are there will shelter away from it. Last year I went to Drayton Manor and we had a torrential downpour which enabled me to go on Apocalypse 5 times in a row.

I was there on Friday, it was raining all night in the way there, and just as the park opened the sun came out!. Glorious day.
Maybe you'll get lucky.

One of the days I was at Disneyland Paris was a torrential downpour and I decided to go on the Indianna Jones ride as there was no queue. It was one of the scariest rides ever as the rain was very hard and sharp against my skin.

I am sure rides in Britain are designed with British weather in mind, but the operators do know when to close down rides if the conditions are too bad.

Me and the OH went to Alton Towers the first weekend it opened this year and it was snowing and hailing most of the day. The only trouble we encountered was a power cut which meant a few of the rides were down for about an hour. Not too bad considering the weather. The rest of the time the pnly ride that was slightly affected was Rita, as the snow made it a bit unsafe, it just meant instead of say going round every couple of minutes it went every 7-8 minutes.

Oh, if it is raining, do't go near Rita. It hurts, SO much when raining, and I'm not joking. Feels like hailstones.

Well I went to Thorpe Park yesterday and it was raining extremely hard.

When I went on Colossus it has just started to rain really hard. It made it more fun, but it really hurt my face as it felt like hail.

As we got back into the station, they closed the ride due to the adverse weather conditions.

Nemesis Inferno and Stealth also closed. I believe it mainly the roller coasters that are affected.

We got caught on the log flume in a thunder storm once - slighty scary when you're up amongst the trees and theres fork lightening around you lol!
They only really close rides down in a storm - for obvious reasons!

If it rains then the queues for each ride are a lot shorter.

Advice - pay a friend to infiltrate the lines early and get them to vomit on the rides. The queue quickly dipserses when they see the attendant hosing down some of the seats.

What are you, made of sugar? It'll keep the wimps away and not effect the rides in my experience. I've been on Nemesis when it was hail-stoning, that was fun!
