I think this potential news is both good and bad.

It's great for those of us who don't yet have the console. I wouldn't be too bothered about waiting for a couple of years so I could get a higher spec version and a decent catalogue of games to play on it straight off. It would also solve the Wii's lack of technical prowess which will hold it back in the coming years.

Not so pleasing for those who already have the console I suppose though since it would mean buying an all new console rather than just upgrade parts. Also I'd wonder if the the older Wii would start to be fazed out as such - if they're designing games for the Wii2 then would they be able to run on the old version?

It's all speculation for the moment but it would be nice to see a console like this from my pov anyway.

Maybe by the time of Wii2, the stars to points issue on Nintendo's site will finally be answered, or more than likely, it will still be 'coming soon'

Total unfounded speculation and besides, everyone knows the Wii 2 is out this year (aka the version that supports DVD playback).

So basically some person is guessing that in the future nintendo will release another games system. Wow what a staggering piece of news! Who would ever have thought it?

Or is this just somebody's way of stopping people from buying the Wii?
All the time the Wii is selling, its good for Nintendo and very bad for Sony and Microsoft, but if people started to think, why buy a Wii when a new one will be available within 2 years, so may aswell wait till then or just buy a PS3 or 360 instead.
The normal lifespan for a console is 5 years until a new one arrives. 2 years seems a bit unlikely, but who knows what will happen, only time will tell.

That is the most random and pointless post ever. It's only the fact that I've read the same article as you that I'm not calling you a gibbering buffoon.

A link or a quote next time perhaps, yeah?

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Pachter said: "I think that a lot of people consider the Wii a "fad", and attribute that conclusion to the type of people who have been attracted to the Wii so far."

With asked for his comments on Steinberg's claims that developers are reaching their limits when it comes to the Wii's remote control, Pachter said, "I can't begin to imagine what is on the drawing board for the Wii, but I can say that most developers I've spoken with are extemely excited about the potential for the console... I believe that we've only just scratched the surface.

"Also, Scott's analysis presupposes that we have seen the last in hardware innovation from Nintendo. I disagree. It's easy to envision a Wii 2 in a couple of years that runs at full HD, and has both a Wii-mote and an analog controller, so that all games can be ported to it.

"If Nintendo were to introduce such a device, it would be fully comparable to the Xbox 360 - perhaps it wouldn't have Blu-ray, so a comparison to the PS3 may be unfair - and would likely have most of the same third party content as the other two devices."

But Pachter did agree with Steinberg that the PlayStation 3 "will ultimately come out on top". Victory, he predicted, will be the result of a console price cut to $199 and the success of Blu-ray.

Price point is key, said Pachter - stating that 80 per cent of all Xbox consoles sold in the US were $199 or less, with the figure approximately the same for PlayStation 2.

Wii popularity short-lived, claims Sega
Monday, June 18 2007, 12:19 BST

By David Gibbon, Gaming Reporter

Scott Steinberg, vice president of marketing at Sega, has told news agency Reuters he believes the Wii will be "dated" within two years.

Steinberg, who heads up the marketing team in the US, said: "The Wii will start to look really dated in a couple years when developers get more value from the 360 and learn more and more about the PlayStation 3."

He also said he believes both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 had better long-term sales potential and added: "I am a little concerned about the creative depth of the Wii pool. I'm not sure if they will top out in 2008 or 2007."

Interestingly enough it's been reported in NGamer this month that the PS4 is apparently due for release in 2010 which strikes me as both early and optimistic if the PS3 is anything to go by. Consoles generally have a bit of a longer life span than 3 years.

The possible reason for this quick jump to the next model? Apparently Sony a patenting a remote/wand style controller for it. Well they say imitation is the scencerest form of flattery.

I think they are looking to get the jump on Nintendo who I'm pretty sure will realease a souped up Wii before this date, likely with improved control and graphics once the price of production will not cripple the company.

This is bullshit complete and utter bullshit, the wii is innovative and hasn't been pushed to it's potential yet in way of games. People know before buying the system that it wouldn't have the graphics capabilities like the Xbox360 and PS3, they'd be a fool to think otherwise.

Xbox and PS3 strictly speaking is for the hardcore gamer, there are few of those compared to the mass market that is buying the wii at the moment.

Plus Sega hardly has the best track record considering the success of the dreamcast.

Look at it this way........if the wii is just a fad then we need only look at the DS thats been out around 2 years now and it is still outselling every console in the states and japan, yet the psp is far more powerful......

Ninty has got this sussed, they have shifted the goal posts and the hardcore community is moaning cos it can't keep up.
