No satellite signal is being received

Hi

Wonder if anyone can help? I've had my Sky+ for about a week (Pace PVR 3).

I've got the message 'No satellite signal is being received' on a number of channels: Sky Sports 1,2,3,Xtra (so no rugby ), a few of the film channels, Ch5, Sky 2 and probably a few more if I carry on looking.

I've rung Support and I've done a few power cycles etc but no joy.

Is this likely to be due to weather? Nothing obvious here but suppose it feels a little humid.

Sky told me to speak to the company who installed the system as they hold the warranty. Unfortunately, the company the Managing Agents chose to install Sky are based a few hundred miles away and can't get out here for 10 days!

Suppose it's not the end of the world but has anyone got any advice except keep going with the power cycles?

Thanks in advance

What are the signal levels on each input - "Services" "System setup" "Signal test"

If you have signal on input 2 but not input 1 (or low signal) - switch off at mains then swap the two lnb input cables over on the back of the box (whilst doing so make sure that the connectors have not come loose on the cables).

If the signal level swaps channels - the problem is in the lnb /cabling or distribution unit - if you now have a signal on both inputs you had a loose cable.

With a signal on input 1 you should be able to at least view programmes (and record by pressing the R ) but without 2 signals you will not be able to view one record another OR record two.

If you only had one signal originally and it did not change channels after swapping leads the fault is in the dodgibox.

Hi

Signal strength is good on both inputs (say 90%/80%), but signal quality is low on input 2 (c. 20%).

Aha

Swapped the leads round and now tuner 1 is showing the weaker signal. So it's the wiring/lnb then.

Oh joy - just a week and a half to wait while the installers come out then!

Thanks for the help. Only thing is I can record and watch something else so why is it only certain channels that are affected?

The plot thickens.

It's a shared dish and me neighbour (who has ordinary Sky) had lost channels as well.

10 minutes ago I was down to zero signal strength and quality then it all started working again.

No obvious change in the weather/atmospheric conditions. I'm confused (not complaining because it's back); but confused.

The reason we nagged the managing agents into agreeing to put up a shared dish was the variability of the freeview signal.

Is this likely to be a recurring problem and is there any point in getting the installers back in if it's working again?

Cheers

Not sure if this is relevant for your situation but yesterday evening I completely lost my signal strength and quality and had no lock on the signal. Lasted for about ten minutes and it wasn't particularly raining hard (we had some torrential downpours earlier in the day and that didn't affect it). The weather has been rather stormy (some thunder and lightening) for most of the afternoon/evening with huge atmospheric storm clouds above and you could still hear distant thunder when it happened - therefore I put it down to that as the signal soon returned as strong as ever.
