Old Sky box?

Hi folks,

Just a quick question - I've just got Sky+ (Yay!) despite the fact Sky wouldnt install it as I have cladding.

My question is - I only got my Sky box (the original one, not the Sky+ one) in July, under the 'interactive discount' I believe it was called.

I don't have a use for the box now, as the rest of the household uses Telewest (Ive even tried converting them...) and the reason I went with Sky was because Telewest wouldnt fit another box.

Am I able to sell this Sky box (if legal, if not, give it away), or do I have to keep it for 12 months before its technically 'mine' to do what I want with.

I don't want to pass it on to someone for them to be told they can't use it because the serial num is locked to my acount or something.

Many thanks,

Joel

The box is your property as soon as it is installed in your house, the only thing that isn't is the Sky viewing card (so you can sell the box but you can't sell the card with it as it's still Sky's property.)

The 12 months you refer to just means you have to stay a subscriber to Sky for a minimum of 12 months and as you have a Sky+ box you still are.

you should be able to sell it, its yours from day one and if it isnt currently being used then its fine to sell - although the person you sell it to will not be able to susbcribe with it (they will just be able to get the free stuff)

What make and model is it?

Even though you now subscribe to Sky +
I would have thought you still have to subscribe for the minimum period with the older box if it was subsidised.
Could be wrong of course.

Oh dear, what a lot of confusion!

The "Interactive discount" contract obliges you to keep your Sky Digibox connected to the phone line for a minimum of 12 months. Connecting your SKY+ box to the phone line fulfils this requirement.

The Panasonic TU-DSB40 is yours to dispose of and, if someone else buys it, they will have no problem in getting what Sky call a "second hand subscription form" to apply for a viewing card.

But my advice would be to keep it as a spare for when your SKY+ box stops working.

There were a few posts a while back about sky taking back normal sky boxes from people who upgraded to sky+ before the 12 months was up? Have they stopped doing that now?

I'm confused with the telephone connection bit... I've a second box upstairs that also has to be connected to the phone for a mirror subscription for £15 a month, can I disconnect the phone line from that one after 12 months or do I have to keep it connected for the cheaper subscription?
Thanks

If you have a mirror sub you must keep both boxes connected to the same phone line at all times to ensure they are both in the same premises.

If you subscribe to Sky and receive equipment at a lower price due to the interactive discount (BIB) you must keep your digibox connected to the phone line for 12 months,

You can have as many digiboxes as you want, FTA, FTV, cheap sub, full subs, whatever combination you want, if you did not buy your equipment at a reduced price due to the interactive discount (BIB) you never need to have a telephone line anywhere near the digibx(es).
