Season 1 only uses 1 word titles. But next weeks episode "Bogroll" should be interesting!Quote:
![]() She plays Lisa Park - whom you probably don't know either ![]() Currently they are above "good enough". If it stays there, it should proceed for years. Of course if there is a large group of people who are all saying "Hm... isn't it going to start soon? Or get better soon?" and they all leave, the ratings might drop. But I don't think thats likely. But for anyone thinking its going to chance soon - you are wrong. This is what it is, this is what they want to do. Love it or jump through the airlock ![]() Quote:

I don't think we've seen the last of them either so maybe we'll get answers at a later date. As far as shooty soldier went, I thought it worked. I didn't get taken out of the show, I just thought "Typical military, shoot first ask questions later..." Maybe that shredding will teach him a lesson in diplomatic relations That might be the first time I've been called that on this forum... Or in fact...noticed...on this forum ![]() Still, I do think it is early days for this series and judgements shouldn't be rushed to. We have no idea what the overall arc will turn out to be, or indeed if there is one. At the moment its grabbed me as "people stuck on a mysterious ship trying to survive", and perhaps it might be stupid to say this, but it feels the most "realistic" of the SG series for me. I think that has a lot to do with no overpowering alien threat hamming up screentime.....but give it a while

Thanks for addressing my comments codename_47.
![]() You made some excellent points that hit home with me and that's why I replied to your post. Like I said, I was hoping for what you said out of the series, but I'm still not sold on how they are pulling it off. Some of it I like, other bits I can't believe they wrote so badly as it just screams old style Stargate and Atlantis. It's confusing me.I don't think there should be a need for us to make "tech" excuses for that life form using 40,000 litres (try and imagine how much water that is!!!) if the script had been slightly different. At the rate it was swallowing water, it will have that ice planet ate within a year! And if it's that thirsty, it should be eating us, we are after all mainly water! I just didn't like the idea of these beings. Too daft for me. If they start killing entire planets by absorbing all water, they are going to be Replicators MK II. ![]() The water issue was just an example, there have been far more basic plot holes that could have been dealt with using a few lines here and there and a little re-shuffle. The "Typical" military situation is a bad cliche thats place was on Stargate and Atlantis to make the main cast look super human and create a cheap sense of danger. That's the old style that worked for those shows. I'm only being this anal because I really expected a big style direction change for this show, instead of Sci-Fi cliches and making excuses for plot holes and idiotic behaviour by characters. We've done that already in Stargate, I really enjoyed it, but like "Enterprise" in the Star Trek universe, the writers are having difficulty moving on. For the new show, I was hoping trained personnel, especially those hand picked and assigned to the Stargate program expecting the unexpected, would not be so idiotic and it pulls me away from the realism and gritty atmosphere they are working hard to create. Dealing with basic crisis elements like water and food, counting resources and bullets, but still keep the awful and outdated/unbelievable cliche character flaws for the background characters. Kind of conflicting if you ask me, pulls me away from what the show is trying to achieve as you so eloquently described. ![]() Perhaps I was expecting a little too much realism!!! But it takes so little effort to go over the script and remove these roll eyes moments without harming the main story, that I just can't understand why they don't do it.

I'm sure someone has said this before but I just have to say it anyway. The geeky kid just really annoys the hell out of me. I find his lines cringeworthily bad and they make me want to throw things at the TV just to shut him up. It just seems all too predictable to me, you can almost here the stupid TV execs deciding to dump a geeky kid in there to try and connect with the type of people who watch this show. ARG
Stupid skinny girl is also very annoying. The jury is still out on Mr Carlisle, can't help but feel he's over acting a bit. The plot also seems quite thin, too many things don't quite make sense. And please dear god tell me they are going to stop with those stupid talk to camera clips, they add nothing. But I'll still watch it, because I love stargate. Maybe it will become bareable like BSG did. |

I think I'd throw up in my mouth a bit if tptb go in that direction. It worked for SGA, it will not work for SGU. |

Does anyone know if the replays on Sky One, which i believe are at 9PM or after, are unedited?

The only ep to be edited so far for the 8pm Tuesday airing is the first one. All the rest shown have no graphic sex and/or violence that needs cutting for the pre-watershed. I'm watching the US and 8pm Uk versions to check for any censorship. Will post if I see anything that gets the chop.

They've shown it time and again that they're going to set up mysteries and not explain them (what was with that pod that jetisonned away? what happened to the team that went through the stargate?)... it's not lazy writing, it's their style. |

I remember when channel four edited an episode of SG-1 that they showed at 3/4PM. In the episode they referred to a gun shot wound that the viewer didn't get to inflicted because it was edited out. It was quite obvious too because the music suddenly changed with cut. |

We have new style Characters like Rush who's not "perfect" or as superficial/stereotyped as super-solution McKay or Sam, he has secrets, hidden agendas, shaky morals...... HOWEVER we also have an old style "brilliant" young kid in Eli who can do everything better than the best qualified scientists of Earth and idiot "red shirt" cast members of the week whos actions and lines are so contrived and stupid it makes you think WTF? just to move the plot along. I agree with you in one way, it was their style in Stargate and Atlantis, both which I thoroughly enjoyed and I wasn't bothered about such trivial things as they weren't meant to be taken seriously, but that style seems conflicting in Universe as it pulls me out of the darker, grittier more realistic style - and it could be changed so easily! So yes, I think it's Lazy writing, falling back to methods you've used in the past for the plot, characters cliches, contrived situations and action. Just like Enterprise was to Star Trek, where the writers promised different but fell into the same tired style, this is Stargate under the guise of being something new, but slaps you in the face with old style writing. The issue is whilst I used to laugh and enjoy that style in Stargate and Atlantis, it makes me roll my eyes and cringe in the slower, darker, serious Universe. |

theres a diff between giving no explanation and just being wrong
locusts are small but wipe out crops,i dont see problem with these aliens taking the water im all for good writing but i think you are looking into this one a tad too much, we dont know how alien lifeforms work, cant compare to creatures on earth in my opinion |

The main points I was trying to illustrate about the show were outlined in my last posts. It's just some contructive critism that's all. I still think there are flawed elements to the shows writing, but what I think doesn't matter as long as the majority aren't bothered. |

i havnt seen much of a problem yet,not sure about others
but i gotta also say that its a great change to the normal sg1/sga last mins ave storylines "ive got it,ive managed to turn the bomb off even though i have no idea how this technology works or the language its written in!" saying that, they have used destinys interfaxce a tad too easily, although it may be ina ncient which they have studied by now back home |

I'll agree with you there, whedon247.
I do like the changes in Universe, and I am enjoying the shows so far even though I'm being critical, just felt they could have gone further to complete the new direction and the fact they've left overlooked some elements is disappointing me. I was definitely ready for a fresh perspective after SG1 and Atlantis' formula, which were essentially the same. This has a lot of potential and I'll certainly be watching. But I'm a Sci-Fi slave, can't help it.

They're there making the tough decisions, keeping secrets, hiding their true selves etc, and Eli calls them on this and tries to get them to co-operate more as a team rather than just blindly following a chain of command he isn't part of. (Dr Rush isn't part of it either but I find it interesting he tries to play along, only really because he wants to be in charge of it more than he believes that military rule is a good thing...) As for everyone saying they guessed about the ship flying into the sun...well that makes me feel a bit stupid, since I didn't. My personal theories were that the shuttle would magically find some fuel/something else on the planet that would alter its course, or that they'd pull a TNG and depressurise something on the ship to knock them out of the way (After going through a time loop and seeing the number 3 recurring on the ship beforehand, obviously ) I think they gave lip service to the second theory, but I never considered the ship could survive/refuel from the star. I guess I'm not as clever as everyone else here ![]() What I find interesting is, looking at the cast photo, the military guy on Earth who the Commander uses the mystic stones to swap bodies with seems to be given credit as a main character.... ![]() That's an interesting decision, having one character so cut off from the ship and everyone else. If I was to go into prediction mode: (Spoilered just in case my wacky theory turns into reality)

Why is everyone wondering about the jettisoned shuttle/pod??? Surely it was the damaged shuttle that contained the dead senator....cast adrift as it wasn't useful and it served as a "burial at sea"..... |
