My first point of call was Apple's web site as most people seem to use them.
What a nightmare!
It seems that to buy one 7mb mp3 I have to download an 80mb programme which will "Reorganise my music collection"
Reorganise my collection?? WTF? I have been building it up since 1999 thank you, and I am happy with the way I have it!
I got so frustrated trying to buy this one track I gave up!

Now to the reason for my posting!
Can anyone recommend a simple straight forward web site that legally sells tracks with out filling my computer with more bloatware ?

If possible I want to choose the song, pay with my credit card and just download it to a memory stick so I can import it into our on-air play out system.
Why not try www.mobiledjdownloads.com you can purchase individual tracks but, unlike other site mentioned you get the tracks in uncompressed WAV format, much better.

A bit more expensive at 99p per track, but worth it.

Noticed deals coming out.
Three have a deal

Spotify Premium will be available on the award-winning HTC Hero mobile - it won ‘Gadget of the Year’ at this year’s Stuff Awards and ‘Phone of the Year’ at the T3 Gadget Awards. You‘ll be able to get it on our Pay Monthly £35 Internet Texter plan, on a 24-month contract. The HTC Hero will cost £99.99 and your 24-month Spotify Premium subscription (worth £240) will be included as a voucher in the HTC box.
Dell have a one year Napster subscription on some laptops.

I'd love it if 3 would do a deal with Spotify for Mobile Broadband users where it doesn't eat at your GB allowance.

I suspect three will try and concentrate on sales of the Hero with Spotify as an iphone alternitve as seems they can't sell the iphone along with other networks!
Hope they learn from Nokia's mistakes!

NOKIA'S MUCH TRUMPETED 'Comes With Music' service is struggling to make an impact on worldwide sales despite a massive marketing push and a spend that's widely thought to be in the millions of dollars.

Figures published by Music Ally suggest that a paltry 107,000 users have signed up for the service worldwide, with by far the biggest uptake for the free music service being in the UK.
----
Confusion over DRM and whether downloaded tracks can be converted to other formats or played on other systems have contributed to the dreadful sales figures, but Nokia is blaming the failure on poor marketing and support. Free services like Spotify have also made fixed term contracts tied to airtime deals seem less attractive.

Well I have to say that Spotify is amazing!
I have been listening to stuff that I had forgotten even existed.
Hansolo - thanks for the invite!

Next Question - is it legal to record the stream?

Ya can't beat good old CD and I fail to see why people even bother with these MP3 downloading sites.

1: The quality is sometimes poor

2: If your device crashes or corrupts...bang goes all your music

3: You are open to on-line fraud

4: A lot of tracks are still unavaliable....need I go on?

It is more convenient to buy the CD, at least you have something to show for it, and if your CD player goes ker-put...you still have the CD itself.

Just go out and buy a recordable CD deck, use some decent interconnects and record from spotify...job done.

Right up 'record spotify' I agreed with you 100%

I was particularly after some obscure tracks from a handful of obscure 1970's albums that are no longer available as CD's.

Spotify Offers Lower U.K. Subscription
October 27, 2009 - Global | Digital and Mobile

By Richard Smirke, London

Sweden-based music streaming service Spotify has lowered its premium subscription rate in the United Kingdom from £9.99 ($16.30) a month to £6.49 ($10.60) for certain customers over a 6-month period.

The reduced pricing structure is effective immediately and is a one-off deal for existing customers who opted in to receive special promotions upon joining.

The promotion results from a sponsorship deal between Spotify and online car insurance brand Swiftcover. The period for taking up the offer, which provides subscription holders with unlimited ad-free music and mobile access, expires Nov. 2.

The move follows the recent launch of the BSkyB-owned Sky Songs service into the U.K. digital market. However, a spokesman for Spotify isnists that it is "an advertiser promotion, pure and simple -- there are no dots to connect."

Sky Songs went live in the U.K. and Ireland Oct. 19 and offers unlimited ad-free streaming at two price points: £6.49, including an additional 10 DRM-free downloads per month; or £7.99 ($13) per month for unlimited streaming and 15 downloads.

This site helps you compare prices

http://www.mp3puzzled.com/

I have only ever used itunes and 7digital. Are the cheaper sites worse quality, harder to download from or have a limit to how many times you put them on a CD.?

After holding out so long and suing Bluebeat, all the Beatles songs are to be officially released December in FLAC 44.1 Khz 24 bit and MP3 320 Kbps formats with 13 mini-documentary films and artwork, but only on a limited edition apple shaped memory stick for £200!

Maybe in 2010 they will get round to be individually legally downloaded over the web?
