The FA have announced the 3 main games for Highlights on their website which give higher cash to the clubs

The three ties for ITV highlights are as follows:-
• Oxford United v Yeovil Town – Saturday 7 November
• Bromley v Colchester United – Saturday 7 November

Thanks.

TV schedules for that date have to be confirmed on Thursday 10th December, so that doesn't leave the FA a lot of time to award the rights.

Still more than a month away, which is ages in the world of TV. Plus stuff can be scheduled at pretty much the last minute so I wouldn't worry too much about that date.

If nothing sorted by christmas, time for the FA to panic. I'm sure it'll all be resolved by then though.

Theres no reason why schedules can't change. Or just slap a big TBC across 2 hours and put a film on if you don't get the rights.

Schedules are traditionally 'confirmed' and go to press as such for the TV magazines on that date.

The last thing The FA want I'd assume is to announce a deal after the TV magazines for that week have been released (which will be mid December as its the early January edition).

Of course, but if the FA are to look even remotely professional, they need to get the rights sorted out in time to meet the TV listings magazines publication deadlines.

I'm not sure in the grand scheme of things whether the games are listed in TV magazines is the FA's greatest concern right now. They'll just be happy for the games to be on TV.

In 1985/86, when there was that dispute between the broadcasters and the football authorities and there was no coverage at all of any football, the dispute was settled on Christmas Eve and the FA Cup third round coverage - ITV highlights and a BBC live match - was all unbilled in the TV listings. If it was that important for them to billed properly, they wouldn't do replays the week after, would they?

The FA Cup 3rd round draw will be done on the FA Cup 2nd round weekend.

The TV matches for ITV will be accounced ASAP after then.

When the matches for ITV in the 3rd round are accounced you would think theFA will accounce something then.

ITV won't be able to account for both their games because they have 1st and 4th pick.

Someone needs to 2nd and 3rd.

The FA could get a neutral advisor in to decide which games would be picked 2nd, 3rd and 5th (should the 5th game not be dropped, which I doubt). There was talk of this being the method by which the Premier League would allocate games to the clubs if the package system collapsed and the broadcast rights fell to the clubs in the future.

I'm sure the FA hope they are able to do that. But they may not be able to.

The FA recently announced very large losses for Wembley Stadium which they own and therefore they desperately need to get as much money as possible for these rights.

But if there are no bids which they consider high enough then it's almost inevitable that the FA will have to hang on until the last minute to try and get as good a deal as they can.

This could easily result in a delay well past the 2nd round draw. If so, as suggested above, I suspect the FA will make the 2nd and 3rd picks themselves so they can tell all bidders which games they would get in the 3rd round.

I'm sure the broadcasters would rather pick their own games rather than have the FA pick them.

Of course. But if the rights have not been sold when the picks have to be made (for police reasons etc) then there is no choice.

Isn't your logic a bit flawed. I would have thought any last minute deal would drive the price down.

I'm not saying it will go to the last minute. I'm just saying that it could do.

If the FA get an offer they deem acceptable by the 2nd round draw they'll take it. But if they don't they won't.

Many people thought the FA would do a deal in time for the 1st round and I'm sure they would have liked to. But they obviously felt they couldn't accept whatever the highest offer was at that point.

It could be said that we're moving into unchartered territory - there hasn't been a rights market like this for a very long time and who knows what may happen? Who would have guessed what ended up happening with the Ukraine game?

There were good bids though for the Ukraine game from TV companies. Five and the BBC bidded for it.

The fact that the company holding the rights wanted to start a PPV internet experiment whatever bids came in hardly counts

With the third round draw next Sunday (which is scheduled to start at the same time as Arsenal vs. Chelsea FFS), can we expect any announcments this coming week? I can't imagine that the FA would want to leave it too long before confirming to the clubs when they're scheduled to play.

Or alternatively, will they just pick the 2nd, 3rd and 5th Games without a designated broadcaster so that ITV can choose their games and say to whoever wants the rights "Here are the games, if you don't like them then don't have them".

Or more likely at the moment, ITV will get an extra pick (second) and the third and fifth picks will be on TheFA.com.

There has been no change to the foreign rights compared to last season.
