Weekend Rugby Setanta

Pepignan v. Castres- John Forrest & Killian Keane
Opreys v. Glasgow- Fred Cogley & Peter McKenna

Munster v. Ulster- John Forrest & Donal Lenihan
Leinster v. Cardiff- Fred Cogley & Ciaran Fitzgerald

Edinburgh v. Dragons- Fred Cogley & Killian Keane (with Des Curran & Emmett Byrne in the studio).

Was at the RDS on Saturday so not sure how they split the studio team between the Munster & Leinster games.

Presumably Connor Morris is ill/ away, hence his lack of involvement.

Should really be in the football comms thread

Anyway, I think Talksport have the commentary rights (and therefore entry to the ground, CL radio rights are sold by the clubs)

I thought Atletico v Chelsea was 5Live's featured game anyway?

There's no exclusivity to radio rights so its not an issue of allowing entry to the ground.

Man Utd are asking radio stations wishing to do reports from Old Trafford to pay an extortionate amount of money, so Five Live are quite rightly just watching on telly.

Because they haven't paid for radio reporting rights.

See the Radio Football Commentators and Reporters 2009-2010 thread in the radio section - the natural home for this kind of question/debate.

Basically it's as Gilsta and Ariusuk say - Manchester United are asking radio stations to pay the full radio commentary fee to carry updates on their home Champions League games, which has seen both the national sports radio stations opt against spending the money required to have a presence at Old Trafford.

Contrary to what The Wanderer has said - talkSPORT don't have any commentary/reporting rights to Manchester United games in the Champions League and were affected by this situation in much the same way as Five Live.

talkSPORT have Champions League deals with Chelsea and Liverpool, and have been doing commentaries on all of their group stage matches, including tonight's Atletico Madrid v Chelsea fixture.

Like Ian Dennis on Five Live, talkSPORT's Dom McGuinness has been reporting off-tube on the Manchester United v CSKA Moscow game this evening.

This issue only applies to the radio coverage of Manchester United's home Champions League games, and so hasn't/shouldn't affect Five Live or talkSPORT's coverage of the Red Devils in domestic fixtures (where the rights are sold by the competition rather than by the clubs).

Five Live and talkSPORT both covered Manchester United v Wolfsburg off-tube a few weeks ago, and things will likely be the same when both stations cover Manchester United v Besiktas in a few weeks time.

As to what will happen in 2010 when Manchester United played their knockout phase home game(s), things may change.

The Rugby union Autumn International games involving France and Italy have now dissapeared from ESPN (UK)'s schedules.

As it stands I'll have to hope RTE's IP blocking doesn't happen (RTE 2 are showing France V South Africa) , with a torrent lined up for me on Sunday Morning.

It's funny how people's taste differ, l really can't stand these two presenters.

l know many people like them. My brother-in-law thinks Ian Darke is one of the best, but l just want to hit the mute button.
