Modern Warfare 2: Official Discussion (Merged)

Lets face it, we need one.

First, the news that it wont be a Call of Duty!!

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/a...-cod-name.html

Modern Warfare is the new franchise name, and Treyarch will take over the COD franchise, so RIP COD Franchise, hello MW!!

So, what do we want in MW2? No Juggernaut? No Stopping Power? No Martyrdom? How about custom characters as well as custom classes online? A nice focus on the SAS or Royal Navy in the career mode? Would you take flame throwers into MW2, or is that too far fetched?

Let the battle commence!!

I like the idea of MW branching off into its own franchise. It keeps it fresh.

In terms of online play I'd like to see customisable characters and dedicated servers. No more martyrdom, stopping power or juggernaut.

The teaser trailer hints that some of the gameplay will be in spaces populated by the public, which puts an interesting angle on it. Most games like this are only filled with combatants. Imagine a level where you have to hunt down and kill a terrorist in a crowded area like an airport or shopping centre filled with civilians. Awesome.

Sounds like the split between the Collyer brothers and Eidos over the Championship Manager series for PC. Eidos kept the name but the Collyer's took the code and renamed the series Football Manager instead.

I'll be getting the Modern Warfare releases, but I may not get the CoD ones now. WaW was ok, but another WWII setting definitely wouldn't warrant another purchase IMO.

I wouldn't get rid of these, now dont get me wrong Im not a fan of any of them but lots of people are and the only way some people get a chance in this game is by using these perks, for instance my old man plays COD but he's not very quick and finds it a bit difficult to aim (due to arthritus in his hands and the pain it causes him) so having the juggernaught or stopping power puts him in a position where he has an even chance against the likes of us, plus it would be a pretty boring game without these and if we were all using the same perks, I find that when people are using these perks it makes me up my game and give's me a challange.

However I would like to see these perks banned from certian types of game modes, so you could use them in a TD but not in S+D.

I would like a different type of perk system as well, I would like to see specialist classes, medic, assualt, sniper, recon (much like in killzone) where depending on which class you pick you get abilitys and perks only for that class and then maybe 2-3 general perks, so for instance if you were to choose assualt class you would get 4 grenades and extra ammo as your default perks only available to assualt class and then you could choose faster reload and extreme conditioning as your standard perks open to everyone.

I would also like to see more people per game and larger maps to accomadate them, maybe a city map thats as big if not bigger then seelow and have 20 vs 20 matches.

Not to mention the obvious dedicated servers, a glitch free enviroment, dedicated headset channels for clans(I dont have a headset but I know DSUK would like this)

They've got to keep martyrdom, its the best perk in the game especially on headquarters.A cover system would be nice as well.

I'd like to have dedicated servers, customisable characters, no vehicles & a mute all function for user voices in game & in lobby

Nope. COD is done for me now. Treyarch have shown they can make a decent game, but when it comes to Modern feels, they are a let down. See Quantum of Solace. Good game, but was so lacking in certain places.

Fanchising Modern Warfare is a good move on Infinity Wards part, but I wonder what made them do it? Possibly the dirty tactics Treyarch used to promote WaW (remember the devs and so on talking about COD4 as 'us') or maybe just that they believe its just too big to be continued as part of the COD franchise?

Eitherway, dedicated servers as many have said is a must. And carry over the Multiplayer options from WaW, like locale searching and parties sticking together, even after joining mid-game/lobby.

Not a fan of removing stopping power, juggernaut or martyrdom.

Curious to know of the setting of MW2. Like dedicated servers, customisable characters definetely. No vehicles pls....

Cant argue with that. The problem is, even if they were kept there for people who cannot compete on the same level as many, it gives the idiots chance to abuse the perks.

I, myself, dont think I am anything but crap on that game. I mean, Ive got a positive Kill/Death ratio, thats about it. But I enjoy the game.

Maybe a system where when you reach a certain prestige, the perks become unuseable?

EDIT: As far as I am aware, the setting is back to the Middle East, but Im not 100% on that.

Imho, I think that CoD:MW was pretty close to perfect. Including perks and guns. All i want to see is a new improved physics engine for the game(although the current one would still be in good shape to carry on), a co-op mode and new guns & perks added to what is already there. I would be happy with that.

I have to say that dazza's idea about specific perk classes is a good idea aswell. Good shout Dazza

I just want there to be more weapons, more bonuses and such for multiplayer

I don't want prestige mode unless it offers more than just bragging rights

Perhaps the ability to have multiple 'soldiers' who all level up individually and a 'career' system where you can choose which way you level up and as a result recieve specific weapons/perks in different orders according to the career they have chosen...

So you can have a guy who at say level 10 chooses to level toward being a demolitions man and recieves frag/c4/claymore perks earlier than someone who decides to be a sniper...

I only play Hardcore Search and Destroy.

Grenade launchers need to go. Either firing duds at the start of search and destroy or reducing the range (as the current crop can actually fire grenades to the moon).

Extremely annoying.

Juggernaut ALWAYS gets on my baps just because the person I've shot should be dead and yet they survive where as I end up dying because they've got extra health.

Last stand . . . well I despise it and there's really no place for it (especially in the COD WAW style of Last Stand actually lasting 400 hours).

I like the idea about having populated scenarios in the single player story mode, sounds awesome. However I would like vehicles to only be in single player, not in multiplayer. I know there's tactics needed to take down a tank in CoD5, but it should just be about the players, and the perks, not players, perks and vehicles.

I think vehicles would be good for transportation i.e on a large map, you & a few troops can jump in the back of a jeep & head up to the other end, no tanks or machine gun turrets though

yeah that sounds good. The gamble you take for using it and risking running over an IED or something, but if it pays off a group get to a point quicker.

Also heat vision/infrared goggles would be nice to help spot campers in dark corners

That's what I was thinking, one of the perks in your classes could be some sort of mine that would blow up the vehicle if driven over, could maybe get a 3/4 kill with the one mine

that would be great if the maps were the size of Warhawk - but maps made by infinity ward aren't big enough to justify transportation.

It would be awesome if the game used the new CryEngine but I know it won't happen.

I like how they've dropped the 'Call of Duty' too.

I can't wait!

How do you feel about the UAV/Airtstrike/chopper arrangment?

I quite like it as is, but maybe a new one for 10 kills? P'raps more pointage for downing a chopper (does my head in how it counts for nothing in F4A.)
