And even if you don't "GET" it or find the dialogue difficult-

Give it time and see some of the greatest characters and script created for any programme.

Yeah Go for it, you will not understand or even like it until a few episodes in, but therafter you will crave for it, it is the best tv show on earth.

As for the dialogue, I'm sure people who have lived in Baltimore all there lives would even struggle a bit with what the street lads are saying, but put up with it, it is worth it I promise.

To be honest although I think its a great show, I am a little tired of constantly hearing now how its the best show ever, especially from the guardian website!

I came to this show late..am currently on S1 Ep 5 on the FX re-runs...I think I'll jump over to BBC next week when the beeb catches up ..only prob is 5 episodes a week is just too much for me to keep up with...but I have a 250Gb HDD in my DVD recorder so can stack up the series and watch at my own pace.

It is stunning, well worth watching, I'm hooked already.

I watched the first 6 episodes last year and gave up. Just not my kind of programme.

I expect it to lose 50% of its viewers after the first ep.

I thought it was really good. Some of the police speak dialogue had me lost though.

Will definetely be watching for the duration

The first episode is quite broad, just setups all round mainly.

That's a pain, but plenty of other ways to watch it (rent it, buy it, online ..... ).

I've got my boxset, so I'm happy.

I thought it would be on iPlayer too!!!!..

That time of night especially every night is just not convenient for me. Now I feel a bit sad.

I just finished watching Series 3 on DVD and I'm taking a breather before starting on Series 4.

It took me about 4/5 episodes to get into it and get an ear for the dialogue. The characters are brilliant; Bunk, D and Omar.

I think the BBC showing it every night is an inspired decision.

I'm surprised it got that. I've seen them all twice and I adore this show, but 11:20pm, and on every night, that must have put a lot of people off. Also in the US it never got more than about 1.5 million viewers, if it wasn't for the huge critical acclaim and support it would have been canned, but it was allowed by HBO to fulfill its complete story.

It may be hailed as the greatest TV show ever (I agree, and I only think you can make this judgment if you've seen at least the first series), but it's also the most intricate series I've ever seen, you stop listening for a few minutes and I guarantee you'll miss something. This puts a lot of modern tv audiences off, which is why the procedural "different story every week" shows like CSI, Mentalist, Bones, Law and Order etc are the most popular shows in the US.

For those who did watch it and thought it was a little slow, stick with it until about episode 6, if you still don't like it, you probably never will. But the payoff you get at the end of each series and the final series (aside from a few 'hiccups') make it such a satisfying TV show.

If it got 600,000 last night, it'd expect that to go down to about 200,000/250,000 average for the entire run.

I thought it was a great first episode - even if I am shattered this morning.
I'll definitely watch the next one, despite having to pull up subtitles and give it 100% attention!

It wouldn't kill BBC to put it on a wee bit earlier, would it?

Subtitles! What an excellent idea, I might be able to get what they are saying now.

I'm watching it on Sky, but might switch to BBC if they get through the series quicker.
