The Thick of It - new series

Some good news, Armando Iannucci has said on his Twitter this morning that he's starting work on writing eight episodes of The Thick of It, so there will be a new series hopefully later in the year.

Also, In the Loop is out next week, the movie that has much of the same cast and some of the same characters.

In The Loop premièred at the Glasgow Film Theatre in January and is everything one could hope for and more.

Malcolm Tucker, sweaty b***s and a large American, priceless!

Actually I never thought The Thick Of It was that good.

Unlike "Yes Minister/Prime Minister", which gave a pretty accurate reflection of the Minister/Civil Servant link (ceratinly at the time) this is nothing like the operation of a Minister's section in a Government Department.

Do you currently work within a minister's section of a government department, and did you work in one at the same time that Yes Minister was broadcast? If not, how would you know if it's accurate or not?

And more to the point - it's a comedy, not a documentary. All that I care about is whether it's funny or not and In The Thick Of It is consitently hilarious in my opinion.

I've had people say to me "look at how they behave". Well, no, they don't behave like that - but the writers have try to sell it as real.

They could like make or very funny (probably funnier) and believable. It's as hame because I think Iannucci is a fine writer and performer.

This is good news after all the cancellations in the past week.

The thick of it is one of a few 'laugh out loud' comedies in this century.

The way the spin doctors in their paranoid frenzy manage to shoot themselves in the foot every time is simply brilliant.

I'm fairly sure filming will start in June. Chris Addison (Ollie) was going to do stand-up at our local theatre in June but when I went to get tickets the box office told me he had cancelled due to 'TV committments'. Gutted it was cancelled but can't wait for the new series.

Lets hope those 'TV commitments' are "The thick of it" and not just a second series of "Lab rats" eh?

A well-deserved promotion to BBC2. I hope that it lives up to its previous level of quality. Lokking forward to even more of Malcolm Tucker's inventive swearing.

Rebecca Front was great. Fantastic to find something on a Saturday on telly that isn't created for morons.

That really was a terrific first episode. The chemistry between Rebecca Front and Peter Capaldi was especially impressive. The newcomer slotted in like she'd been in the show since day one or something. Loved the cheap laugh from the Leamington Spa photo op mishap too

Rebecca Front has been a very underused comic for the past 10 years. Good to see her on this!
