Sex Appeal

Question for the girls I guess, and some of the men on here....

Do you feel the new era of Doctor who has a certain sex appeal? And what does the teenage looking doc 11 do for it?

For me he looks freakish, which is worrying because he just doesnt have the face for a leading role?

Or is it just me?

PS Wetting my pants waiting for this weekend!!!!

I'm not Matt Smith's biggest fan but if he drives away all those teenage girls (and not so teenage girls) who wet their knickers over David Tennant he'll have sone the series a great service.

I think Matt has unconventional good looks, and I know for a fact that lots of people do think he has sex appeal. Not me though, but then nor did David Tennant.

as a teenage girl at an all-girls school, I must admit practically all my friends fancy David Tennant, whereas one or two I've spoken to do think Matt Smith is attractive
however, the 'sex appeal' of an actor isn't going to turn me away from Doctor Who- it's my favourite show, and I know that's the case for most of my friends, in fact, it's my 50 year old mother who has stated she won't watch Doctor Who when Matt Smith starts, becuase she doesn't find him attractive!

Fair point. Tennant is universally handsome I guess. Where as Smith has a very strange unique style.

I think he has a freaky head TBH.

I think the role helps. Before he started, most people seemed to think that he looked like a weasel. It's only since he's been in the role that he's achieved sex symbol status. I dare say a fair few people will find that they find Matt Smith quite dishy after all once he's started.

As for the idea that reducing the audience will be doing the series a service, well, I don't need to point out how that's nonsense, really, do I? The more fans the better, and why other people like it doesn't matter, as long as they do.

Yes anything which reduces the viewing figures will be good for the programme......

*smacks forehead* For a show that has always been known for having for having Female companions for the sake of Dads......the new series trying to have the audience fancy the pants of its actors is hardly a new thing.....I doubt you would ever complain if there were a bunch teenage boys or not so teenage boys talking about how they fancy Billie or so on....like there was someone who said that Michelle Ryan would be easy on the eye....and they want them to stay and leave or go on about them!!!!!!! No it just seems that women and gay men are not allowed to fancy anyone on Sci-fi shows......can you please provide me with a rule book which says that there are only particular reason that a person is allowed to watch a show?????

I don't think David is conventially handsome....but yes I do fancy him, I don't think Chris is conventially handsome, but I still fancy him too.....and I know for a fact that if at the age I am today, and I watched Peter, and even Tom as the Doctor during the 70's and 80's....I think I would have been fawning over them too....and I think I would have been a happy bunny everytime Ian Marter came on screen too....
It just happens that the I missed out on all that as I wasn't born untill they had gone, but if I had, I would have happily said on here for your sake that I fancied them.....

As for Matt (I quite like his quirkish looks)....is age will play a big factor in bringing more so called teenage girls.....you mark my words.....have seen the madness over Twilight (not seen it myself), but I had one look at that actor in the main lead, I couldn't see anything in him....but thousands fancy him...Why???? Because beauty is subjective......

In fact Just to annoy you....because you have really annoyed me now....I'm going to start a couple of "I want Matt Smith's Babies" When Matt starts....Just to constantly remind you that the Teenage girls are here to stay

I'm afraid I have to take issue with you on two points

1. Double standards - lets face it, it has long been the case that male fans of the show oogle over the female companions, and in fact, often attack them for not being attractive enough. Yet you seem to think there is something wrong with female viewers finding The Doctor attractive. That really sounds fair.

2. To dimiss everyone that finds DT attractive out of hand in the way you have is very disappointing. There are lots of people that do find him attractive but also have a very real love of the show.

the thing some people forget is the secret of nu-who's success is that it appeals to a wide group of people these days. one of the many reasons things went wrong towards the end of clasic who is it had become too much of a fanboys show and excluded anyone else from the show by proxy.

As a not so teenage girl who definately "would" I'd just like to say not once have I wet my pants at the sight of David Tennant in Nu Who. In Casanova this is another matter...

Matt Smith is a bit on the young side for my tastes but the more I see him the more Doctorish he seems so I shan't abandon the show because I don't fancy him.

Because, why would I? I watched as a kid and I don't think Tom Baker informed my adult taste in men at all and I didn't fancy any of the subsequent ones either.

Attractive actors aren't a factor in what I choose to watch at all. I think it's a bit odd that you think this is why people choose to watch a show or not?!?!

I would watch the show whether I fancied the lead actor or not.

Personally, while I understand what others see in David Tennant, he's far too skinny for my tastes. I doubt Matt Smith will be much of an improvement there, from what I've seen he's pretty thin too. I do think he's attractive, but again, too skinny. His looks are more unusual than David's, which personally I think is a good thing for the Doctor, but of course that will depend on his performance.

I'm not going to make any comments about how good or bad Matt may be as the Doctor because I haven't seen him in the role yet. I really don't care about his age- having a man in his 20s play a centuries old timelord is no less believable than a man in his 30s or older (it's a very small percentage of his real age either way), it's been established that the Doctor does not look like a human of a similar age would! Besides which, the actual age of the actor may not be the apparent age of the character- choice of costume and hairstyle can add or subtract a good few years. David looks (at least to me) younger than his real age when playing the Doctor. Matt may well look older than he actually is.

As long as the show continues to be a success I don't mind whether or not I or anyone else find the characters attractive. We all have different tastes, so whoever is cast there will be some people who like the look of them and some who don't.

David Tennant's Doctor gets right on my moobs. I could never fancy him because of that (though I do like his hair). I can barely watch his episodes because of his annoyance factor.

I can't decide if I fancy Matt Smith or not, but am looking forward to finding out.

I find that a very odd statement. It's a shame that all leading actors have to be pretty, and diminishes TV production. As for that Twilight person, mentioned above: he needs to eat some food and grow up.

Guess I better comment then

I think that with Matt's selection as 11, they are trying to undo the RTD era oversexualisation of the series, even though this contradicts what we've seen of the Moff's stories so far - Gothic castles and industrial spaceships seem to fit with Matt's doctor more than screwing the Paris aristocracy. I certainly feel that Doc 11 would look out of place in a formal suit, which is a step away from 10 - an inability to blend in anywhere, as opposed to the ability to fit in everywhere.

I really have no idea about Matt Smith lol. He has a sort of attractiveness to him. The guy from Twilight (as mentioned earlier) is quite cute, although I've never seen the film.

I think you're still going to get teenage girls swooning. It's just the way TV is now - you gotta be attractive lol, well ok... not ugly.

I didn't find DT that good looking at first, but when I kept seeing him on trailers/magazines.etc I thought he started to look good (I didn't get into the series until Runaway Bride lol - my first episode!).

I don't how much of this I agree with....I mean at least in terms with DW....
Yes there is the whole sexiness idea that seems to be promoted with the likes of DT and Billie for example.....but I think this show definitley doesn't take on actors because of their looks....
I mean like I said DT and CE, in my opinion are quite attractive.....but they wouldn't be considerd universally handsome unlike Brad Pitt for example....as someone pointed out, DT was described as a weasel when he started, and CE is hardly seen as the hearthrob either....and again they took Billie who isn't picture perfect like the actresses in Hollyoaks either (otherwise there wouldn't be awful comments about her teeth or eyebrows that I have read on the net)....and even CT, where there were many complaints about her not being right because she was no eye candy....
I think this show does dare to to have its main leads that are not considerd universally beautiful or attractive....but it seems that once they become famous names.....the sexiness label also gets attached to them.....
So even though there maybe a few more people right now saying that Matt is ugly or whatever, and would turn away teenage girls....if he is successful, and here is hoping he is.....then he too will be competing in sexy polls and God knows what......

Although I do believe that this show has made geekiness quite sexy.....

Sexiness, attractiveness it is all subjective and to one's personal taste. It is quite ridiculous to suggest that some people only watch DW because they find DT attractive. I admit, I do find him incredibly sexy, however, I did not find CE in the slightest sexy/attractive but loved him as the 9th Doctor - this was due to the strong acting, the dynamics with Rose, Capt Jack, Mickey and other excellent guest actors and the fabulous stories.

DT has made geeky sexy now, quite how that has happened is down to his personality and what he's brought to the role - it helps I think, that he is personable and charismatic off screen. He comes across very naturally and seems a lovely guy, that is attractive.

I was too young to find any of the other Doctors attractive - Tom Baker scared the living daylights out of me - Peter Davison was my Doctor; I didn't fancy him, I just liked him as The Doctor.

DT has perhaps brought a whole new audience to DW as some have watched thinking he's a bit of alright, but I can't believe those would have stayed watching if they didn't enjoy the show - why bother, just look at photos of him!

I don't find Matt Smith attractive - it won't stop me watching DW. I will only stop watching if he's rubbish in the role and I can't imagine SM letting that happen.

As a Doctor Who fan from the sixties - I have only fancied two of them ...Peter Davison and David Tennant. But whatever they have looked like.... I've continued watching the series 'cos it's , well...DOCTOR WHO!!
I think Matt Smith will actually become another 'heart-throb' in time. He has some sort of 'alienesque-seduction' about him!!

Depends which form of the Master, and how much facial hair he had at the time.

Oh yes - John Simm!! The most fanciable Master! (Well - none of the rest were anyway were they?) [although they were still very good - particularly the ORIGINAL Delgado!].
Actually, on reflection, Paul McGann & Eric Roberts were pretty handsome...but does that count, as it was the movie?

Definitely John Simm.... I loved him already before.....but yes his Master was very tasty indeed......

Mr Eric Roberts looked more sexy in Heroes, then he did as the Master.....but Doctor 8 does have sex appeal too....still does in fact....love McGann
