I honestly believe that if virgin were to be like sky with there cards and boxes encryption wise then it would be the end of them,because where i stay id say 90% of people i know have these boxes and just subscribe to free tv with phone and bb.
So im sure if they were to have to pay for all the channels well im not sure i know they would certainly leave virgin and i believe virgin know it too.

Why should people leave virgin they may well do if all they want is HD tv true,but if vod is your thing well sky do not offer a vod service like vm.

Vm may wel lose honest customers also, at the moment people like me are subsidising your freebie friends,and i am getting fed up of it, they are leeches and should be off the tv system if they do not pay for what they view. If vm used proper encryption they would be.

is you have 300,000 ppl paying 10£ a month for phone and getting xl free why would they then pay £40 a month legitly so thats 3 million a month in cash you lost. which you would have to make up the balance.

vm pay per lefit customer not per viewer so you are unlikly to be making up any short fall. vm are making as much profit as they should be

Not really true though next year i might well get one of said boxes(fed up having the pi-s taken out of me) if vm do not act.

Meaning i will pay vm just for a phone and broadband,and of course i will get the free tv package,and a chipped box will mean a saving to me of around £40 per month, thats £40 vm will not be getting out of me. Sorry to have to join them but if vm are not doing anything about the problem why should i care.

Virgin are starting to take on the people who are using modded modems, the TV boxes will be a different matter entirely. They are going throught the motions with the adverts at the moment, but they can't win unless they make it secure, which will cost money that they don't have.

It's not "free" though is it. Yours (and Pudpuller's) statements do not work for this reason.

Let's deal with yours first. First, you have to pay Sky for the television and then subscribe to Sky Talk (when BT give free Evening and Weekends) and then you can get free broadband which is limited to 2GB a month.

I said most would not convert free (chipped) free vm tv to the £85 a month VIP package when VM finally fix Nagravision (not sure why they got rid of NDS when they bought other companies)
My point is most people who now get copied boxes ie EVERY CHANNEL (most dont get VOD so that cant be a major concern to them) would most probably NOT HAVE ANY premium TV service and revert back to the basics.

my line rental is only £10 a month from sky also i know what your saying and where your comming from,there will always be cheaper ways,dont get me wrong i was once a virgin customer and was happy with what i was getting but for now im with sky.And if i can get my bb and phone cheaper with anyone else id go easy as that,i pay £5 a month bb for up to 8mb im lucky i stay close to exchange i get 7mb for a fiver and £5 a month talk unlimited,handy for me with family abroad with the 20 international free countrys.Also just to note if i didnt have the sky talk i would have to pay and extra £5 a month.

You never previously mentioned anything about the VIP package before. With Virgin, even paying just for the broadband and phone, they can still get the basic M package of TV for free which includes things like BBC iPlayer, catch up TVoD, Virgin Central and number of other channels not available on freeview.

The rest of my argument about filling the network with higher value customers than phone and only broadband ones still stands. Virgin are resonably competitive on their broadband if cost isn't your biggest factor e.g. only ADSL2+ customers can get 10Mb or faster broadband that cable customers can get.

In fact I'd venture that people would want to pay more for their broadband if they lose the pirated TV so that they can pirate by downloading shows from the internet instead.

THEY GET EVERYTHING on the TV(apart from VOD) (some get that too depending how cheeky the pirater is)

They ONLY keeping a CABLE connection FOR THIS PIRATED BOX. so if they stop the TV VM will MOST probably loose the PHONE AND BROADBAND customers
I am NOT saying VM doesnt compare with any other company but they dont own the pirated box because they like VM more than SKY OR BT OR FREEVIEW. they OWN it because they paid a one off fee to some bloke who run away after taking the money and receive the VIP TV package.

Well you must be a mug then! As if the 300 people you claim to know, only stay with vm for the free sport and premium channels they get with a chipped box available with only a vm broadband and phone connection, you were only paying £18 for a broadband connection with vm and wanted a cheaper deal goodness knows why.

As with a chipped box like your friends have you could have got all the sports channels and movies for free,why did you not do like them then?

No I understand perfectly. What I am saying that once the opportunity to pirate has gone, a person has to look at the the various alternatives and Virgin is often still competitive for the "phone and broadband only" customers too.

Your argument had been that removing the pirating opportunity was not in Virgin's interest as they would all then leave. I was saying, and giving reasons, why this would not necessarily be the case. I'm sure even in some circumstances, some of these people would pony up for TV too if they had no other way to get it.

The most shocking thing however is not only your lack of shame but how proud you are of your theft. It's no different to pocketing a few items in the supermarket and paying for a few other items. Or perhaps if I hacked your WiFi network and used your internet for free.

UPC (NTL company) along with Virgin Media have rolled out Nagra 3 (encryption code) in Ireland, knocking out some channels and in some areas all.

There is no hack for this code and it has been a delight reading all these spongers on various forums complaining, one even said that Virgin should consider the economic downturn, another that he has a right to steal a service.

Honestly it's like their human rights were being violated, it's only a matter of time these leeches will be knocked off in the UK

1. Most would leave or drop to the FREE M package not many would pay for the current level of tv. (M is free so no extra income but extra expensive for vm as they pay for legit user and not illegal ones)
you are only going to keep SPORTS users and with most of them having HD tvs most may go for SKY HD.
You are NOT going to keep customers for the VOD as they dont currently use it so are not going to pay for it.
My point is it becomes more difficult for VM to keep them phone and broadband customers and make the money it would cost them to replace every VM box with a new secure one.
and there are 3 other ways they can get the tv.

2. When did I ever say I had a pirated box or stole anything off VM. I used to have 3 LEGIT boxes off VM paying over £120 a month after many lost promises about HD and providing UNLIMITED broadband (their claim in 2001) I moved to SKY HD. only have an £11 phone line with VM for last 12 months.
if NTL had concentrated on upgrading their products than buying every other Cable company they might not be in the trouble they are in.

3. I am not stupid enough to leave my wifi wide open to abuse and let anyone in. my networks are secure and you can come and try to hack it. if you manage to do so and I dont do ANYTHING to stop you then I couldnt blame you for doing so,
