Online Tool to record, convert and host live radio shows.

http://www.righttooffend.com/ripper/

A little tool I wrote to so I could add all upcoming shows I want to record and then not have to think about it again.

How to use:
Go to Schedule. Enter a name, give it a start time, an end time, and the URL of the radio stream (eg. "mms://87.117.200.35:9000/FORCE"), add it, and then collect your mp3 when the shows over.

Let me know if you encounter any bugs. The source is available on request, and will be released once this has been tested a bit more.

All feedback is appreciated.

Hi

It's a great app well done.

A couple of questions will it be possible to have our own listings and the ability to delete items as the list grows.

Cheers
Andy

Andy,
Once I'm happy that the core of the application is bug free, and that enough people want to use it, I'll be adding:
Private accounts
Recurring schedules (record a certain show, every X days)
Better UI to verify all URLs when the user adds them, avoiding dud entries.
iCal uploads (Exported from Outlook, Gmail etc)
Improved file/log management

Plus any other features people care to suggest.

At the moment I just need as many people to test it as possible, so please everybody give it a try.

All the best

Ed

I've been looking for something like this, a sort of PVR for online radio.

Nice. There is the Hardcore Lives tuner which allows you to set a timer for a one-show recording (both PC and Mac versions available), but this is much better as you don't have to have your computer turned on. This is the future of the internet in a way. People will be offering services like this in the future to allow you to have remote storage of all sorts of things, I'm sure.

Well, I think it's working. Last night it was spewing errors all over the page and then a lot of the mp3s went from the folder. I lost some recording I'd set up too.

Has this broken again? I made a mistake entering something into the schedule and tried to delete, now it won't load up again.

If the stream is above 128k mp3, then it downs it to 64k mono mp3, which is same quality as 128k stereo, except in mono. It seems that .wmv / .asx kind of streams are saved as 128k stereo mp3s. This is all in my own experience with it.

I've been playing with it and apart from Annie Macs show its been amazing and worked everytime. Be great if it had a kind of series link feature so it would record the same show each week.

One of mine failed too. Look at the .txt file that is in the same folder as the mp3, that should tell you why in a round-about way. Sometimes it could just be down to the stream failing though. With mine, the tool that converts the stream to the mp3 crashed.

I am really getting into speech radio at the moment and would love to hear some of the overnight chat on speech stations as its the perfect companion for lorry drivers like me.
