Is Andy Sounders around?

They'll after people to send voice tracks in!

Yes, they need to get the audio sorted out, some of the speech is very quiet.

It has a helpful slot next to Absolute. It's good to hear D1 taking a few risks at last.

I find it hard to see how it's going to survive past the first 6 months with all unsigned artists though unless the founder is going to subsidise it.

I just can't see it getting enough listeners or ads to be self sustaining.

Hmm, yes, so effectively a subscription service then. Yes, that might work. A 128k slot on D1 is about £100,000 a month though isn't it?

Isn't the cost of running the station significantly reduced if they don't have to pay to use commerical music?

risk doesnt even cover it! i could understand Play radio putting a station on there or TWR as they have money but these guys? It won't last i can promise that. Unless some one has knowledge of how this will be funded to me it's little more than a glorified internet station and the owners got their head in the clouds if this is going to work. and with that very positive note i'm off to bed.

OK, so BBC 6 Music has a reach of 681,000 listeners so if this gets 1/4 of that (170,250) it would need a per listener donation of £7 a year to keep it on air.

I can't see that happening so it will need to be subsidised imo. Personally I wouldn't have a problem with some of the licence fee going to this kind of station.

I love how you seem to think you know the details of Something Corporation finances (many of their presenters aren't even paid) and what makes you think there isn't people with big money backing Amazing?

Is this the 'Big L' of Digital One? Rich backer but unsustainable format?

Definitely imo more worthy of a slot than many others but will it still be there in 2 years?

I think not.

I find it amazing how some small unsigned music website can get on D1 while major groups are avoiding the multiplex and NME Radio is limping on Drg London.

According to Radio Today, it's on a 6 month trial, I'll be interested to see how this outfit can make money or even to pay for the slot.

"It might not work" Well done chaps!

Gotta love DigitalSpy, acres of threads about how much the big groups are killing radio/creativity for playing the same few songs over and over. Then someone new comes along and tries something different, and everyone's ripping them on day one saying their unrealistic business ideas

They could have kept the Birdsong and replaced D1 Test B with Amazing.

Just saying they will have to fund it, it is not commercially viable. Not ripping, just stating facts.

Do you think this is a commercially viable radio station darkknight77?

If so explain why.

I dunno, but every thread moaning about Heart/Kiss etc. don't seem to take into account being "commercially viable" this seems the station that so many people have wanted on these forums by the sounds of it, a bit of support wouldn't go amiss.

Most unsigned bands are unsigned for a reason, they're crap. Am I going to sit here for 2 hours listening for a track from the few that aren't?

Nope.

I just want a station that plays music I like. Heart doesn't. Kiss doesn't. Amazing doesn't.

I think you have two kinds of people on these forums.

The enthusiasts such as Tabbythecat and the realists like Westward and the many of us in between who are keen to see the industry prosper but are realistic people like myself and Martin Phillip.

Like I said, damned if you do, damned if you don't. Stations can't win with the DS crowd, no matter what they do.
