Public Enemies (release 1st July 2009)

I'm looking forward to this. Two of my favourite actors in a costume drama. I don't care if the actual film turns out to be complete rubbish (apparently some people who have seen previews didn't come out of the film gushing about it). I'd happily pay good money to watch Depp and Bale just stand there doing nothing for two hours. The film is being advertised on TV quite a bit now. Is anyone else looking forward to this one?

I usually enjoy director Michael Mann's films, so yes, I'm looking forward to Public Enemies. I think Johnny Depp will make a great Dillinger.

I was a bit bewildered when I'd heard a few people hadn't liked it because so far everything points to it being a great film. I think I will enjoy it.

Christian Bale has got praise from the family of the FBI agent for being so accurate in his portrayal Alston Purvis who is the son of Melvin Purvis said that Christian Bale got his fathers mannerisms and his accent pitch perfect, great praise isnt it ? Cant wait to book my tickets for this,i think this could give Star Trek some serious competition for the film of the summer & whats nice its not got loads of special effects & its a proper story,Total Film has given this 4*

Bale is a method actor so this doesn't surprise me but it's very reassuring.

I'm really, really looking forward to this film. I've been excited since it was announced. I think regardless of anything else the performences will be worthy. Marion Cotillard looks wonderful too.

Can't wait to see this.... After some of the horrors I've seen this summer (with the exception of Star Trek)... I need a GOOD movie to watch.

There are so few films I'm genuinely interested in this year. Star Trek is the only film I've seen in the cinema so far. Nothing else has interested me enough to make me want to part with money that could be better spent on other things.

Public Enemies does look great though. It would interest me even without such a great cast because I've always found depression era America fascinating and love history in general.

It's being advertised on TV a lot already so I hope it lives up to the hype.

Reviews are coming in and they are very mixed. A "marmite" film, maybe?

My cinema has a screening on Wednesday. I pay no attention to the critics, they never like anything I enjoy anyway. The clips I've seen (most recently the clip shown during Depp's interview on David Letterman in the US) look amazing. I think I'll love this.

Just got back from watching it, i really enjoyed it, one of the best films i've seen this year. Johnny Depp was excellent in it, as was Christian Bale (who thankfully talks properly and not like Batman!). Michael Mann directs is brilliantly as well, i love the realistic way gunshots sound in his films, it's almost like a nuclear bomb going off, lol. I actually can't find anything that i disliked about it. Excellent film.

I usually adore this man's work, but Miami Vice was a massive disappointment for me, hope he is back on track for me with Public Enemies.

Would have been much better shot on film and not DV though, despite what the director says. He's known for those great visuals in films like Heat but this just looks cheap.

Really enjoyed it. Smart, kinetic, and well worth the effort. Depp was - as always - excellent, and Bale was - as always - err... adequate.

If i'm honest i really didn't notice that it wasn't done on film. The way that it was filmed doesn't detract from the enjoyment at all. The people that are saying that it does are just being picky for the sake of it, half of the people that are whining about it on places such as the IMDB forums haven't even seen the film.

I just read the review on TeleText, as usual the idiot on there has given a good film 2/5. I swear he only does it to be controversial, pretentious prick...

Went this afternoon and enjoyed it but was surprised to see people getting up and leaving throughout the film right up to the last 20 minutes Though Depp was brilliant as usual and Bale was just as fantastic. Some parts felt a little slow but made for a good couple of hours x

Didn't get a brilliant review in The Sun either, apparently the sound quality is as bad as the picture quality:

I really want to see this.

5 stars from Empire, though I don't really put much faith in their reviews anymore.

In general I take a star off for Empire reviews, they overate everything to keep the studios sweet and get exclusives.
