Paradox - new BBC series.
Noticed in the new trailer for BBC autumn drama a mention of this series - Paradox and wondered what anyone else had heard. Why does the cold clammy spectre of Crime Traveller spring to mind all of the sudden
![]() Still to be fair the BBC have moved on with there genre TV since them dark dark days

And me, OK there was a few shortcomings but the show itself was quite good.
I'm hoping this new show will be good, luckily the beebs drama dept. have moved on and seem to sort the plot holes out now, well the majority of them. |

Didn't care for Crime Traveller either - the two leads were not endearing and Sue Johnstone was miscast. It was trying to evoke The Avengers and failing.

"Clerkenwell Films have been commissioned to produce PARADOX, a new high-concept series for BBC 1. Written by Lizzie Mickery, PARADOX begins when an astrophysicist working at a British space laboratory, contacts the police after receiving rogue images on his computer which seem to have come from space. They show pieces of a major incident or crime in which many are killed. An incident he predicts will take place in 18 hours time."
From their website. Britain has space laboratories? |

Sounds suspiciously similar to Deja Vue in concept.

Probably because the FM and a lot of us don't have the same tastes as you, and may actually look forward to a show that we like the idea of.

This sound interesting but does seem to have some similarities to Minority Report but hat was a good film apart form tom cruise so hopefully this will be good. Is it a full series, mini-series or one off?

I don't know why people are mentioning Minority Report as though it's somehow the first time an idea like this has been done before.
It goes waaay back. It's been done many many times before in different ways. Prince of Darkness (1987) The Dead Zone (1982) Night Has a Thousand Eyes (1948) And these are only a very tiny handful of the amount of times this idea has been played with by cinema or television before. Minority Report is just a very recent work in a very long line of stories spanning decades which have been influenced by this often explored sci-fi fantasy idea. |

![]() I simply stated like I liked the idea of the show. If you don't then that's fair enough but I'm fairly sure you'll watch the first one, if only to come on here and gloat how you were right and it is rubbish ![]() Or, to put it another way...... Quote:

I have never been a fan of Tamzin Outhwaites acting, so I shall watch the first episode and judge from that.

Tamzin (I can't believe she still gets work) Outhwaite investigates crimes committed in the future... Oh dear god.
![]() It's this sort of half assed crud that gives us Sci-Fi geeks a bad name. |

Right. So glad you're not pe-judging it or anything
![]() I assume you didn't like "Minority Report" which was based on the same premise which, in itself was based on a short story by respected SF writer; Philip K. Dick? |

You're pre-judging it too, you've just come up with a different judgement.
If you can announce to the world that you're looking forward to it, what's wrong with people saying that they're not? How is that relevant? I don't think the premise is a bad one, although it is overused. I'm skeptical of it because 1) it's on BBC One, and 2) it's starring Tamzin Outhwaite. I'd say those are perfectly valid reasons to expect the worst. |

I'm looking forward to it - I'm sure they know it could be seen as similar to Doctor Who in a sort of way, they wouldn't commission it if it wasn't very different. I'm pleased that we could now have yet another excellent sci-fi show to add to the likes of Dr Who, Torchwood, Survivors, Jekyll. If this one works out, we could safely say that we are in a golden era of British TV sci-fi. (I'll even add Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes and Being Human [which is pushing it a bit]). Of those - the BBC have been responsible for all except Jekyll, which stands along with Secret Diary as ITV's only good programmes this past year barring the Champions League. |

I'd be happy with the premise on any channel with anyone starring in it. Unlike you, obviously.Quote:
