New Sky Channel tier???

I finaly rang up sky to reduce my sky subscription from sky world to sky sports world ( never watch the movies and the price just went up).

apart from the mirrical for getting through to a customer servise rep straight way the rep said that there is a new package that costs the same as sky sports world but includes the even numbered Sky movie channels too.

so i swiched to that.

I double checked that it wasn't a special offer and that the price won't go up anytime soon.

can anyone confirm this seeing as i'm always hearing how unreliably the CS reps info can be at times.

My experience was virtually identical.
Phoned to downgrade to the £33 SKY Sports World, the CS rep told me of this other package for the same price but as I was looking at the package prices online during the call it didn't really make sense. Since I wasn't bothered with the movies for the next few months and certainly not the even numbered channels I passed on the deal.

I guess the even numbered movie channels are where the "rubbisher" films are shown?

I've just got Sky Digital and I need to have Sky World for the first month but I'd like to downgrade to Sky Sports World once the month is up. Might as well get these movie channels if it's no extra then.

I may be way off here but don't the even-numbered movie channels equate to the old Sky Movies Max channels?

Sky Movies 2, 4, 6, 8 and 9 were formerly Sky Movies Max.

You're right. But just out of interest, did Sky change things so that the even numbered channels don't have pish films on all the time?

I got this on Saturday when I phoned to downgrade. The guy called it the "G1" package but that may be an internal SkY description.

Good marketing move though, with some film content you or other members of the family will continue to look at the movie listings and then one day, "oh I fancy that movie, not seen that one either or that one but they are on SM1 etc".
The back onto the phone to SKY

Sky Sports World subscribers get free films

It has been noted to us this evening and confirmed by Sky, that since 1st January 2004, anyone with a Sky Sports World package (regardless of base pack) can subscribe to Sky Movies 2,4,6 and 8 at no additional cost. The pack price for Sky Sports World and Family Pack is £33, the same as adding on Sky Movies 2,4,6 and 8 (£33). You can adjust your package by calling 0870 240 4040.

Yes. I used to have the sport and movies premier, I never bothered with movies max cause it was full of rubbish. Then a few months ago they started premiering some decent films on moviesmax, and shortly after it changed to Movies 2468. I upgraded to Sky world over xmas and will probably be going to sports world with the free movies 2468 in the next few days, not overly bothered about films and I'll be saving £7 a month and still get the sport and 2468.

What I do wonder is seeing as 2468 is now basically being given away for nothing, whether they will stop premiering half decent films on it over the coming months and it will return to being like moviesmax (i.e rubbish, I've noticed the content seems to have got a bit poorer all ready in recent weeks ) so as to make people upgrade to all the movies. Then when people start ditching 2468 as they realise it's pish again, sky will then start showing decent films on 2468 for a period again so as to make people re-upgrade to world. And so on and so on for infinity!

I wouldn't say it's something for nothing. Don't forget they put most of the prices up this month, Sky Sports World was £31 last month and is now £33. More like Sportsworld and MoviesEven has not been effected by a price rise, one of the few packages to not be effected I expect.

I have just telephoned up to add the aparrently 'free' movie channels, and the bloke on the phone said that if after a month I want to get rid of the channels then I need to ring them back.

Does this mean that there will be a cost incurred after the first month?
