ITV HD to become a lenear HD channel at end of year. Hopefully we could get it.

ITV HD is to become a linear HD channel by the end of the year which will mean that it could be available on more platforms. Will we see it on Virgin? Well the article says ITV are yet to announce a carriage deal with SKy and Virgin Media. We can but hope!

ITV HD will relaunch for Freeview HD

ITV HD will become ITV1 HD when it relaunches for Freeview HD from the end of this year.
Up to half of ITV1's peak-time shcedule will be simulcast in 'native HD' by 2010, increasing to 70 per cent by 2014, the broadcaster told investors...

SkyHD customers with the new EPG can already get ITVHD. The frequency is somewhere on this site. Been available to those customers for months now.

Yeah but not its not on the Sky EPG and you cant record from it etc. It can only be found by manually adding it. Its not part of any Sky package.

Don't forget ITV HD is set up as it is due to not being on a targeted transponder so has to be tweaked so not easy to see in Europe.

All they need to do is change the settings so that Sky box's can't view it. Not a big problem as a quick update on Freesat epg software would allow it to be viewed

It is bad that its available totally free on SKY HD and soon free on Freeview HD. But not on Virgin.

It may end up on virgin in a couple of years time, but you will have to pay each month for the privilege. Like you have to with everything thats on cable.

You just simply add it to the other channels section. Then its stored for you to watch just by selecting it from the list. Whenever you want.

No its not part of any package its free to air along with all the other Free to air HD channels on sky. You don't need a subscription at all. Just get a cheap sky hd box of ebay and you'll have itv hd then.

Probably the fact that its taken vm years to sort out 6 HD channels.
They were "coming soon" for about 2 years!

Still no proper vod on satellite though. That in itself is enough to stop me changing my provider.

I would have thought we would get ITV HD on VoD first as announced back at the start of the year. Announced about Feb time off off the top of my head.

We have been hearing in the cable forum that vod has been coming to satellite for a lot longer than that.

Considering the films ITV HD show wouldn't be on vod. ITV HD would be of zero interest to me and most other people I would imagine. Just had a look at there schedule. Grimefighters in HD. Wonderful!

Linear, means that it will be available to all platforms, meaning Sky, Virgin and Otehrs like Freeview too.

It is an almost definate that we will get ITV HD Next Year.

No Linear means a full time based channel not just the odd programme as it is at the moment.

It is expected that ITV HD will be simulcast with ITV 1 and upscaled when not native HD.

Therefore PSB requirements are met as the channel is available via all platforms in SD already so it doesn't follow that all platforms will get the HD version.

ITV have already said that if Sky wanted their HD channel they wouild have to pay for it.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was still the case.

Also Sky & Virgin will probably have to put it in an advantagious slot on the epg and sky has so few slots available they just bought an old setanta one for Sky Sports 3 HD to launch on.

I would be surpeised if Virgin didn't get it if its cheap enougth to boost the number of free HD channels they have. But Sky might not bother and concentrate on unique pay tv channels instead as ITV HD will be on freeview antway.

Its NOT free to air, its free to view.

FTA means unencryted transmission that is sent out and can be viewed by any box

FTV means encrypted in some way and only available to view if box setup for it.

IE you have to set certain setting on the Sky HD box to view it. Therefore a simple change in how the signal is encrypted will negate your ability to view it on a Sky box.

I remember weeks of moaning on the Sky forum because you couldn't see it until a code drop.

Like ESPN?

Sky customers will have to pay each month for the privilege of watching that. Maybe it will end up free on Sky in a couple of years time.

You are not missing much not having ITV HD! Have had it on freesat since it launched, and what a mess ITV make of it. The football normally breaks down to SD at some point during each game, and when it is in HD, the quality falls a long way behind what Sky can do.

Tjhe quality may fall behind Sky but it has to be better then the crap that they show on the SD channel? I really hope that they do get it next year, not because I watch anything on ITV, but because of the World Cup and Champions League.

It is free to air. Everything on Freesat is. It just doesn't have an EPG slot on Sky and is obfuscated slighty.
