X Factor 2009 launching on ITV1 at 19:00-20:30.
Xtra Factor is on at 20:30 on ITV1.

How do people think it will rate? I think around 10.5m in the overnights.

The launch last year was 12.1 million, not 10.5m

This year will be the highest rated yet. The launch will peak at 13m+ and the final will be 18m+

I never said it launched with 10.5m . 12.1m was the peak rating.

The launch last year officially averaged 10.78m.

I wonder if BGT's huge success this year will boost The X Factor? I hope the launch will beat BGT's launch (10.3m), and I think it will. I'm guessing 10.7m.

I think it'll do very well. I think people are crying out for something like this as there's a real lack of anything to watch on TV right now, particularly on a Saturday evening.

hmmm. they are going to have to pull mega people in to get a higher rating than BGT's 18 mil which i found absolutley outstanding. but you know what i think x factor can as it's had it's biggest revamp yet

The XF has had a year on year rise on every series so far, I fear that XF5 may have been the peak and its all downhill from here. I hope that doesn't happen, because the show has got better over time

I have no idea, tbh. I really didn't think BGT could increase on last year and it did... massively.

I'd put money on BGT 2009 being comfortably ahead of the upcoming XF series, there will be no Susan Boyle and the show is more drawn out.

I think XF5 was possibly the best series out of all these modern talent shows. Some Idol series might beat it for talent, but the drama was incredible. As an entertainment show, it was miles ahead and I do struggle to see how they will top it.

EDIT: In response to the post above, XF hasn't risen every year. XF3 was lower than XF2.

Impressive statistics! Although i'm not referring to the actual figures (though they are impressive!).

I have a feeling ratings will be higher than ever, seeing snippets of the all-new revamped show has filled me with anticipation.

I wasn't convinced about the new auditions set up at first, but I saw a clip of the venue and the set on one of the previews and it looked amazing.

Even if the audtions don't work out too well, it's not the end of the world as they are just a small part of XF which is really all about the live shows.

I think XF5 was the peak of XF.

The results are going to be on a Sunday which stinks and I liked to listen to the performances and connect/relate with the person/group.
Now it's probably going to be about the crowd.

I hope they prove me wrong and it's much better but I'm not convinced...

The launch show will get the most figures because, obviously, people will wanna see the format.

I have no doubt it will continue to show SCD a clean set of heels.

I'm not sure about the audition audience, I like the 'going live' feel you get about October time when you get the light up studio and they wheel out the pyrotechnics.

It gives it a sense of chronology.

the recession will help it though, people will really be trying hard to save for xmas, and that (and poor weather) would mean a bigger TV audience staying in to attract.

Also they are attracting bigger and bigger names. People can say what they like about Robbie Williams, but a survey last year suggested he had the 2nd biggest fan base after his former band Take That, and I think that is accurate. He will draw viewers to the show.

other names like Madonna and Whitney who have been linked are also household names who people would tune in just to see.

obviously the quality of the contestants and the drama has a huge impact though (last season had a perfect blend of the hopeless (Daniel), the good (Alexandra, JLS, Ruth...) the marmite (Diana) and the teen appeal (Eoghan)

I still think it'll beat last years ratings

I'm expecting 10 million+ for last night. Will be a tad surprised if it isn't higher than last year.
