Real Madrid Thread

Well after hijacking the Man Utd thread at various times during the last few months over the ongoing sagas of Real Madrid, I figured that the start of the new season was a good a time as ever to actually start a new thread.

So here it is

First match of the season is against Deportivo so lets hope that even without half our defence and all the new players playing their first La Liga match as a Blanco we can start strongly.

Cant believe a day before the game and Alonso still hasn't got an official number

TBF it would appear he's got #22 but then that's still 'officially' Miguel's number ... but then he's apparently off to Atleti so that wouldn't be a problem then.

if real madrid fail to win the domestic and champions league this season, they're an utter failure. and should give us alonso back.

Or not - in answer to both points

with that team and money spent, they need to win at least one of either the domestic league or champs league. if they win neither, i would laugh.

We don't "need" to win something ... yes it would be amazing, and considering the way the team has worked this pre-season it is entirely possible, but just because they don't win something in their first season isn't the end of the world ... I can wait another year for our 32nd league title if it means the squad improve and develop.

indeed. he's a sell out, just like kaka and alonso.

real madrid are badly overrated and only have the reputation they have because of their great years back in the 50s.

yeah playing for the biggest and most successful club in the world, they went there purely for the money didnt they.

looking forward to seeing them play, the galacticos last time around played some amazing stuff at times. would be incredible to watch if they could click straight away

He's not a sell out - he wanted to go, the teams agreed and he left ... he left Utd on good terms for a good price and I think everyone got a good deal out of his transfer.

Real Madrid are not over-rated because of the 50s - they are Spain's most successful team in terms of trophies, hold the record for winning the most La Liga titles, most CL titles, most Supercopa de España titles and have managed to win the odd few other trophies along the way ... I'd hardly say that was overrated

Yes they were great players - in fact some like Raul still are - what's your point? You specifically chose a video where they lost a match heavily ... that doesn't prove anything except that they had a really bad match that day, so lets all conveniently ignore the games they did win because that wouldn't help your negative spin

No they wont.

Not unless Perez can consolidate his debts into one easy monthly payment........

Oh and to the other poster. If there is one player this summer who switched clubs purely and simply because he wanted to play for the club with no thought of financial gain or the promise of raising his profile its Ronaldo.

He went to Madrid based on a desire to play for Madrid. Nothing more.

And? So you won a couple of matches, that doesn't mean anything - especially the way the club was imploding last season.

Well he does pretty much have the banks under his thumb so I am sure he could if he wanted to ... but hopefully Valdano will sort him out and take away his credit card

if madrid don't win anything this season, people will see them as a joke club. they make city look like small spenders.

i imagine he'll still be pleased to be away from a manager that hawked him around every club in europe to only a year later say he needs to be 'loyal'

also hes probably smart enough to realise that one game wouldnt dent the fact he is playing for a fantastic club on no doubt better wages

no they wont, look at last season when they were pretty poor yet they still have some of the best players in the world desperate to play for them

Real Madrid is the biggest most glamorous club in the world and one season wont change that (although if Barca win the champions league at the Bernabao (sp?) it will be a kick in the ****)

And? As I said to your previous post where you basically said the same thing, we don't need to win something to prove we are a good team ... yes it would be amazing, and considering the way the team has worked this pre-season it is entirely possible, but just because they don't win something in their first season as a squad isn't the end of the world.

I can wait another year for our 32nd league title if it means the squad improve and develop, and I doubt we will be any more of a joke club than we were last season when we only came second to an on-fire Barca if we don't win.

Higuain is very unlucky not to be playing as he had a very good season last year. Arbeloa is no Sergio Ramos thats for sure. Ramos makes a big difference down the right flank.

And a penalty won by Raul and scored by Ronaldo makes it 2-1
