Arsenal Supporters Thread (Part 3)

Yeah, Arshavin pulled his groin stretching for a ball against Utd, which is why he went off.

Well news today is that Chelski are BANNED from signing a player until the transfer window in January 2011!!!!!!

Well serves them right bullying clubs. This will mean that their current squad will not be added to until then. They must keep current players happy aswell because now they cannot afford to loose any big names.

Their expensive lawyers, death threats from a section of their fanbase and a lot of whingeing will overturn the ban.

Do you guys know anything about the appeal you have lodged? Just caught a bit about it being mentioned in the middle of the Chelsea stuff and it seemed a very odd road you were going down?

I don't think anyone's fully sure what we're going to do yet.

Part of the club's statement the other day was:

"We believe it is imperative that Uefa’s explanation for its decision provides clear and comprehensive standards that will be consistently enforced. It is also critical that Uefa provides specific details of the processes it plans to adopt in reviewing all games under its jurisdiction."

Those papers will have been recieved today so I suppose the club and it's lawyers are perusing them as we speak.

Their interpretation of the papers, and other factors including the merits or pitfalls of making an appeal, will determine whether an appeal is lodged.

Has it been lodged?

The website is saying that we intend to appeal.

"The Club is in receipt of Uefa’s reasoned decision in relation to the charge against Eduardo.

We strongly believe that the decision taken is deeply flawed and not based on any forensic review of the video evidence available.

There are obvious errors and inconsistencies in Uefa’s judgment and we intend to appeal.
"

Obviously our people have something.

It'll be interesting to see the outcome of this.

Just checked and you are right, its just the intent to appeal that was announced, sorry. It was the "forensic evidence" bit that i found odd.

I don't think the appeal is going to make any difference, we are an English club and i wouldn't be surprised if they upped the ban on appeal.

It's one of those statements that sounds technical but doesn't mean anything without some sort of context. It sounds like they mean some sort of frame by frame analysis but who knows?

There was one camera angle where it looked like there may have been some minimal contact with the keeper's knee. Whether they think they have something there I don't know.

Obviously there are inconsistencies in that there have been many unpunished dives in the past but I really don't see that cutting any ice.

Jason Cundy did make one point in that the the penalty for diving if spotted is a yellow card so why is the punishment now handed out different? Can't see it making any difference though.

My point was that Arsenal are making a mistake if they appeal on the basis that it wasnt a dive. That will go nowhere.

They should be appealing on the basis that is a random punishment handed out with many other cases going unpunished.

I guess the punishment is just different because a "retrospective yellow" would be as much use as a broken pencil.

So Djourou looks like he is as good as out for the season then.

Which is probably why Senderos is still at the club as the thoughts of Silvestre being next cab on the rank are too horrific for words.
Not that Senderos exactly fills one with confidence himself.

It explains a lot because as you say Big Phil for all his faults is a much better option than Silvestre any day of the week. Only another few days to go until this pointless interlude finishes.

I think that will be a major part of the appeal.

Little round-up:

- Bendtner scored (Denmark-Portugal 1-1)... making it look more and more likely that it will be a Ronaldo-free WC. Denmark tops the group, Portugal 4th.
- Vermaelen's boys trashed by Cesc and co (Spain-Belgium 5-0)... Well, Cesc was only a substitute.
- France continues to unimpress and will almost certainly not qualify directly, or at all. (France-Romania 1-1)

France not qualifying
Us (England) winning 7, possibly 8 games in a row, never thought I'd see that

That's one piece of good news I guess as it means he should be back for City next Saturday.

Cesc got 20 minutes, so it's looking promising.

Bendtner's goal was a really good strikers goal, using his strength the outmuscle the defender, bring the ball down on his chest and lash it in with his left on the half volley.

I was really surprised. Maybe he'll bring some of that goalscoring form back with him.

Im angry at Wengers failure to sign a centre back before the transfer window shut.

If Gallas or Verm recieve a long term injury then we only have Silvestre to play who is not good enough.

We could play Song at centre back if it was an emergency but he is needed in midfield.

How long will it be before Gallas gets an injury? another month or 2?

Join a very big club mate. It's gonna be car crash viewing when we have Big Phil and Silvestre at the back as will inevitably happen.
