Its engrossing, kinda weird also.

I have to admit that hairs on the back of my neck stood on end but is this true or just a weird kinda hoax. Will we ever know, unless a body does actually get found and people are arrested for the crime, lets wait and see.

I know if I was a ghost the first thing I'd want to do is head off to to a message board....
It's rather well written though, the author can certainly spin a good yarn

There is an actor called Michael Pennington. Amongst others he was in Return of the Jedi, and an episode of Cracker called 'White Ghost'. As far as I know he is still alive.

Spent the entire day going through all that.. what a marvellous marketing strategy

I wish I had thought about an internet ghost as a subject for a story, let alone cause unwitting forum users to become part of it as well, and have them wildly researching etc.. Brilliant! Hats off to the "ghost"

Did you read pages 45/46 ... where Ghost was proved to be in touch at least with the 'spriit world' ...by 'convincing' Ebejeebe of its existance .....

But the ebook is going to be free too .... I will enjou that too

Maybe the author is actually the site admin - hence the message about "How do you hide your IP address?" Convincing the reader that there really is more to this than meets the eye.

The writing is professional quality and and it's certainly attracting visitors to the forum.

It reminds me very much of the John Titor time traveller thing that appeared a while back, in fact the author seems to have a very similar posting style.

I've been following this too. The person got a good understanding of the superanatural and paranormal and it seems very life like. Its almost like a true story. I love the twists and turns and the unexpected. Latest techie stuff is very interesting.

How he hoaxed a forum and began the “myth” that would hoax the world!
One person posted as the original Michael Pennington on the Birmingham UK forum in late January, pretending to be a “spirit” communicating through an internet connection. That same person then rejoined the Birmingham forum with many other identities - Spanglo, Greyhawk, Tremorhawk, Poltergeist and crystalbreeze32, and posted replies to their own letter they had written pretending to be a “spirit”. Meantime they posted a link to the Birmingham UK forum on the UK Living Most Haunted forum, this bringing in more people who started to post message to the “spirit”. The link then found its way onto the Fortean Times forum, where once again more people began posting on the Birmingham UK forum. Once there were enough people the perpetuator set about causing general mayhem with the other posters creating an atmosphere of paranoia and fear, which worked to his advantage. If no one trusted anyone then they would never share information that might reveal what is going on. The perpetuator then joined countless forums around the world using many other identities (faded-mist, crystalbreeze32, tripmaster, ultima, MalcolmX, ramon45, cableguy, vegasm and treckievoyage) posting links to the Birmingham UK Forum, until it closed, then links to pages they had constructed supporting the story and blaming the original Birmingham UK forum posters arguments for the disappearance of the “spirit” and an end to the magic. Meantime the “myth” starts to gather credence as many people around the globe become aware of the ghost that posted on a message forum!

One person, many identities, but one IP.
