Strictly Come Dancing 2009 Ratings Thread
That time of the year has arrived, Strictly Come Dancing is back.
But will the new extended performance combined with results show be a resounding success for Strictly as BBC One's flagship Saturday night entertainment series, we'll know soon enough. In the meantime here are some confirmed programme details and Friday night airtimes: Strictly Come Dancing Friday 18th September 8:30pm - 10:00pm - BBC One Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly host the new series which kicks off with a two-night special. It's ballroom night and the new batch of celebrities will be hoping to wow the judges with either a Tango or a Waltz. Competitors include Joe Calzaghe, Lynda Bellingham, Martina Hingis, Ricky Groves, Jade Johnson, Ali Bastian, Chris Hollins and Rav Wilding. Strictly Come Dancing Saturday 19th September Time: - BBC One Following last night's ballroom extravaganza, it's time to sizzle as Saturday night is Latin night on Strictly Come Dancing. Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly are back as the same eight couples take to the dance floor to perform either a Cha Cha or a Rumba in a bid to impress the judges and the viewers with their moves. Tonight the competition really hots up as the judges' scores from both Friday night and Saturday are combined, and viewers will be able to vote for the couple they want to stay in the competition. The two couples with the lowest scores when the viewers' votes and judges' scores are combined find themselves in the dance-off, where they dance once again and the judges decide who stays and who is the first couple to leave Strictly Come Dancing 2009. Dancing tonight are: Ali Bastian and Brian Fortuna; Lynda Bellingham and Darren Bennett; Joe Calzaghe and Kristina Rihanoff; Ricky Groves and Erin Boag; Martina Hingis and Matthew Cutler; Chris Hollins and Ola Jordan; Jade Johnson and Ian Waite; and Rav Wilding and Aliona Vilani. Strictly Come Dancing Friday 25th September 8:30pm - 10:00pm - BBC One Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly are back to host week two of the competition as the second group of eight couples don their sequins and take to the dance floor. Tonight is ballroom night, and dancing either a Waltz or a Tango are: Natalie Cassidy and Vincent Simone; Richard Dunwoody and Lilia Kopylova; Craig Kelly and Flavia Cacace; Zoe Lucker and James Jordan; Laila Rouass and Anton Du Beke; Phil Tufnell and Katya Virshilas; Ricky Whittle and Natalie Lowe; and Jo Wood and Brendan Cole. Viewers will also be able to enjoy the 16 professional dancers demonstrating the Waltz and Tango at their dazzling best, whilst the seven couples who are not competing will also take part in a group dance. Saturday's show (tomorrow night) will see the same eight couples put through their paces as they perform a Latin dance – either a Cha Cha Cha or a Rumba. At the end of Saturday night, the judges' scores from both nights' dances will be combined and viewers will be able to vote for which couple they want to stay in the competition. The two couples with the lowest scores from a combination of judges' points and audience votes will then face each other in a dance-off. After both couples have danced again the judges will decide which couple is safe and who will be leaving the competition. Next week the show moves to Saturday nights only, when viewers will be treated to a bumper show with all the dances, voting and results in one episode. |

Coronation Street struggled in the 8.30pm slot last night - it didn't even manage to hit 7m in the overnights, so I expect Strictly to take advantage of the ITV1 programme's relative weakness for the first two weeks.

I'm not going to aportion blame to any one party but I dont think SCD's competition this year is particularly conducive to yielding successful ratings.
It will no doubt beat CS but even still will it be able to match 8.1m, last years launch figures? Kudos to it if it does but the odds seem stacked at this point. I think TXF is ingrained in far too many people's TV schedules for it to rate high directly up against it. |

Strictly Come Dancing
Saturday 26th September 7:25pm - 9:05pm - BBC One In the hardest Strictly Come Dancing so far this series, the eight couples from Friday night's show must now perform a Latin dance, following last night's ballroom performance. The pressure is really on as the couples take to the floor to dance either the Cha Cha or the Rumba in a bid to impress the judges and the viewers with their moves. As always, Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly present all the action. The excitement builds as the judges' scores from both Friday night and Saturday are combined, and viewers will be able to vote for the couple they want to stay in the competition. The two couples with the lowest scores when the viewers' votes and judges' scores are combined find themselves in the dance-off, where they will dance again. The judges then decide who stays and who the second couple to leave Strictly Come Dancing 2009 will be. Dancing tonight are: Natalie Cassidy and Vincent Simone, Richard Dunwoody and Lilia Kopylova, Craig Kelly and Flavia Cacace, Zoe Lucker and James Jordan, Laila Rouass and Anton Du Beke, Phil Tufnell and Katya Virshilas, Ricky Whittle and Natalie Lowe, Jo Wood and Brendan Cole. Eight celebrities performed their first ballroom dance on the Friday show, and now they are let loose on the Latin, performing either a cha cha cha or a rumba as their second competitive dance. The two couples with the lowest combined judges' scores and viewer votes will face the dance off, where their fate lies in the hands of the judges; who will be taking to the floor next time, and who will leave the competition for good? Anybody wanna guestimate the ratings for tonights Series opener, I'm thinking 8m or so but it may well be a bit higher... what do you think? |

Very good ratings there. Easily out did Corrie and rated higher than the soaps. Will be around 9m in the officials.
Obviously tonight's the interesting one... |

![]() I hope Strictly will come out on top. The one show with the performances, voting and results are going to make it a must watch event. I'll be surprised if more people would rather watch a pre-recorded audition show rather than a live event.

Yes indeedy, the battle commences tonight.
I'm going to record the X-Factor because there's so much rubbish to fast-forward through.

Saturday 3rd October
Strictly Come Dancing 7.00pm - 9.15pm - BBC One The stakes are raised as all 14 remaining celebrities go head to head for the first time. They're hoping to impress with their fancy footwork as they take on either a quickstep or paso doble. One unlucky couple will be hanging up their dancing shoes as they find out who will be leaving the competition for good. And while the couples have an anxious wait to find out their fate, the professional dancers whip up a fantastic foxtrot. Plus music legend Andy Williams performs. The weekly clash occurs from 8.00pm when The X Factor goes global on ITV1, as the 24 remaining acts jet off around the world to the judges' houses. Simon is at his home in Los Angeles, while Cheryl is in Marrakech, Louis is in Italy and Dannii is in Dubai. The judges are joined by Kylie Minogue, Will Young, Ronan Keating and Sinitta, who will be helping them make the tough decisions needed to whittle down the contestants to the final 12. Host Dermot O'Leary is on hand to support the singers as they face their biggest performance so far. |

Lay Night's (Sunday's) X Factor averaged 10.9m without the clash.
That is 2m up on last year's equivalent episode. It looks like X Factor's popularity is growing, and SCD can't keep up. |
