Amstrad HD box and Sony KDL32V4000

We've got a customer who has recently had his perfectly working Pace HD box swapped by Sky under the recall for an Amstrad (FOUR times).

It intermittently comes up with HDCP error, which the Pace box never did. Yet the Amstrad box works fine on a different model Sony TV, and a Pace HD box works perfectly on the customers TV.

Anyone else had this problem?.

I've send a report off to Sony Technical, but obviously they don't work weekends

Incidently, we sold over 550 of these TV's last Autumn/Winter, and never had any other complaints (but most of our customers get Sky from us, so don't get Amstrad boxes). Incidently, following on from another thread, this is the first Amstrad I've seen - and (as others have said) there's no SATA port on the Amstrad.

Currently my only thought is to tell the customer to ring Sky and demand a Pace box back.

Same TV, had an amstrad box, same problem.

No problems with a thompson which I had temporarily and now no problems with a samsung.

One other person on here had the same problem but didn't seem to be as bad as I had it on mine.

The only way around it I could find was to leave the TV in standby, or before powering on the TV make sure the sky box was in standby and then take sky box out of standby once TV was swiched on.

Thanks for that, it's something else to tell the customer, and to pass on to Sony.

that might be me as i had those issues with that tv and amstrad sky hd receiver.

i've not had them since i got another hdmi lead and put the receiver on a filtered surge protection lead, as i wondered if it was a small spike in the mains supply which upset the receiver.

to make sure i dont get the error

i have to switch on the tv then go to hdmi 1, leave it a minute and then switch on the hd receiver. then all is fine.

all other hdmi things like ps3, bluray player work fine with no errors

nigel, have you had any response from sony regarding the problem.

i managed to create the problem last night on my tv and amstrad receiver i had swithed on the tv and then the receiver shortly after which produced the hdcp error.

it seems the receiver does not like being switched on first and then the tv turned on to the hdmi 1 etc which results in the error experienced.

They suggested trying updating the EDID software, but with no guarantee it will cure the problem. As this requires over £300 worth of special equipment we aren't terribly interested in doing it.

We've told the customer to contact Sky for a new non-Amstrad box, or preferably his own perfectly working Pace one back.

it does seem like an issue with the sky receiver, as mine is bought from ebay i cant call sky and swap it out unless i pay 65 call out fee.

i have just learnt to switch tv on first and after a minute to switch on the receiver which is not a lot of hassle to do each time.

also sky need to fix the stuck contrast option in the menu as its set too high.

Presuming the TV is still under warranty?, you could try getting the EDID software upgrading, and see if that helps?.

It's 'hoped' that the new EPG update (when it arrives) might also cure the fixed contrast setting.

I have the exact same problem with a Sony KDL-26S2030.

No matter which is turned on first the Amstrad refuses to believe that the TV is HDCP compliant. A Pace HD box (with new EPG) works perfectly with the same TV.

Sony have confirmed that the TV has the latest firmware.

It will be interesting to see if the upgrade done as part of the new EPG for the Amstrad fixes this.

There's a helpdesk number either in the instructions, or on a card that came with the instructions.

Failing that, there are details on sony.co.uk

Sony KDL32V4000 and Sky + HD

Hi Nigel

You seem to know a quite a bit about the Sony KDL32V4000and I wonder if you could help me on the question of whether it's worthwhile updating my present Thomson Sky + Box to Sky + HD Box to be run through this TV. At the moment, I'm getting a very good and detailed picture with a Sky + Thomson Box and wonder whether the HD would really add anything more on a 32" set and also whether the SD channels run through the HD box would be just as good as my present Thomson box. If you have a recommended Sky + HD box, could you tell me the make of this please.

HD looks absolutely stunning on a 32 inch - but like all sets, regardless of size, you need to view from the correct distance (about 5 foot for a 32).

Some people complain that SD is poorer with an HD box, but it's probably just that HD makes SD look so crap when you go back.

I dont have that model TV but couldn't get an Amstrad to recognise that my Sony is HDCP compliant. I changed the Sky HD Box to a Pace and have no problems with that.

As the title of this thread, anything except an Amstrad.

Ammy is working fine for me, had subby problems with first but IMHO, the Amstrad is the best and will get better with the new EPG, works just fine with MY Sony too!

I agree that the Amstrad appears to work with some Sony TVS - but a search of these pages will show that where there is an HDCP problem with a Sony TV it's usually with an Amstrad Sky HD box.

amstrad. Beats em all

heard so many problems about thomson. Pace, samsung. Amstrad like the one i have is fine. Toshiba 37" lcd, Ps3, sony bdv e300 blu ray digital amp. And lg hdd recorder. Everything interacts perfectly with one another. It's how you set them up guys! If you know what buttons to press, what bits to tweak and what cables to connect where, you're onto a winner! With any system too!

Nigel do you rearrange the customers settee and chairs when you install them a HD box.

No, but I inform them of suggested viewing distances, I would be remiss not to do so.

i've still had this hdcp error a couple of times with the amstrad hd receiver, been looking at getting it changed to a pace box as its starting to annoy, been keeping eye out on ebay for one.

the tv is not at fault as ps3 and my hd sat box for foregin channels works fine, no issue at all.
