Heroes Season 4: US (NBC) Pace (no pre-air spoilers)

Don't think I've seen a thread started for this yet (apologies if there is and it's a few pages in), and with it starting Mon 21st I thought it was time we should have one.

Just to clarify, this is for discussion of the episodes once they have aired in the US. Speculation about what may happen in unaired episodes is also appropriate for this thread, however spoilers gleaned from websites with advance knowledge of plotlines should be left for other threads.

With that out of the way...

Anyone else getting Heroes-fever? I'm one of the few people who has continued to enjoy Heroes throughout the seasons and just taken it as a bit of fun entertainment rather than some epic piece of art requiring critiquing and comparing to itself! Looking forward to more Hiro/Ando and return of the Grunny!

Well, the first two episodes of season four are better than anything I saw in the "Fugitives" volume.

That's how i felt also the pacing was much better and not all over the place like Fugitives where you couldn't keep up half the time.

I almost gave up on this show but after the first 2 episodes i'm liking it again hope they keep it up.

No spoilers but watched the first two episodes this morning, was deeply disappointed, but then they have to set the scene I guess

I feel as if I'm coming to a brand new show, but with characters I know. This was almost a re-boot, but it has a potential, which over the next 2 or 3 weeks will tell if this series has any hope or is going to fail, and leave us all wondering where it went so wrong.

It was an alright start but I hated the way they left the last season with Sylar/Nathan and these episodes have just confirmed it was a stupid decision. It was blatantly obvious Sylar would creep his way back into Nathan so now it just seems like we're waiting for that to happen.

I liked the Tracy/Noah stuff and Claire's storyline was alright. The new characters have potential although we basically have Daphne in male form and a girl who gets ink on her back. Not exactly interesting powers although the main guy should make up for that.

I haven't liked Hiro and Ando since the first season and they haven't won me round. It's just the same stuff basically all the time with them.

My post is discussing what has already aired in the US which is what the first post says:

Ah right sorry, I misread the original title thinking they didn't want any spoilers or direct discussions on what has happened prior to the UK launch...carry on

Can't understand why Hiro would want to get Ando back together with his sister. What kind of person (even that young) bears a life-long grudge because someone accidentally spills a slushy on them?

If she ever had a baby she'd probably put it up for adoption the first time it spit up on her.

Just watched the first two episodes and in general it was quite enjoyable, no massive advances but hopefully that will lead to more of an epic build up.

As for the Hiro and Ando story, what a surprise...snoooze! Surely there would be more repercussions from a change like that, I mean did Hiro's sister live under a rock for the last few years what about her ex partner's etc.?

I was under the impression that time travel was in the past (so to speak) and hero's was planning to move forward?

I really hope they make good use of Robert Knepper as there was a lot of potential there, will be interesting to see where they take him.

The last series finished with Nathan fixing a clock, so it was obvious Sylar was the dominant personality. Nice try Matt Parkman, Gabriel Gray isn't brainwashed so easily!

It got trounced in the ratings. Only 6 Million tuned in for 'Heroes' which is 46% down on last seasons premiere, whereas 'House' (which was on at the same time) received a massive 16.5 million. Regardless of whether the shows quality actually improves this season, i think it'll probably be a forgone conclusion among the network execs that this is the final series of 'Heroes', afterall, the premiere ratings are generally the highest for any show, so if it continues to fall...

Here's the ratings source by the way:

Just wanted to mention that while Heroes' 6 million was dire, House's 16.5 million is by no means massive. Dancing with the Stars beat it by a million viewers despite being down 24% from last year.

Two things are virtually certain though - House will still be around next year. Heroes will not.

i have to say that i really liked the first 2 episodes, much improved from last season. the matt and sylar stuff was very good,

also one point that has bugged me since last season, why the hell when nathan was dead at the end of last season why did they not just use claires blood to heal him?

I liked the double bill this week. Certainly better than the dross I was expecting.

I was waiting for him to say "Take my pocket, Hiro..." in the carnival...

Because the writers made a mess of the last season, & forgot all about Claire's magic blood.

16.5 million absolutely IS massive for a US TV show in this day and age, with the fragmentation of the audience in the 500 channel US market. The fact there was another show on that was watched by an even bigger audience does not change that fact. House will definitely be in the Top 10 for the week, possibly the Top 5.

It'll be interesting to see what they can do with Samuel's earth manipulation/Terrakinesis, as in the online graphic novels Sparrow's power did seem "too expensive for tv".

Also I think Lydia's (the tattoo girl) power will be more interesting, it does seem a bit like Molly's clairvoyance but maybe more advanced.
