The DS Eurovision Thread (Part 4)

Even half a year later Stay the Night is still my favourite song and I'm still gutted it never went to Eurovision. Here's a great totally live version of the song that I've only just discovered. It starts to go to pot a bit in the middle but it's still amazing!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsV9E...eature=related

I had such a Melfest day today, I was going through loads of the entries and falling in love with some of the forgotton ones (Tick Tock or Disconnect Me anyone?!).

Goodness! After 1021 pages, we've finally been cut off from our third thread.

Gone but not forgotten... besides it's still there in archive form.

Ding ding, Round 4. Let's begin!

(pointless post I know, but hey, it's the dead season in Euro-land!!)

Slight Eurovision related news. I was on holiday in Poland and went to the Sopot Festival where EMD were competing, along with former Polish Song for Europe contestants Afromental, Bracia and Stachursky. Sadly none of them came close to winning (Gabriella Cilmi did) but it was great to go to something with a Eurovisiony feel to it!

I'll quote my last post in the last thread.

Oh, I'm used to it I just think of it as something to do while ESC season is out.

Actually, during that evening the NF Results were delayed even longer, as Vodafone didnt send TVM the votes in time Anyway, they figured out a way to send Chiara again:

Christ I think I'm going to be sick. Now I know why I don't bother with the awfulness that is the JESC.

I don't know who was the worse, Junior Chiara or the irritating slightly deformed pint sized Mekon. Since when did the JESC become a Fairground Freak show?

Actually don't bother, it's always been one.

Oh Dear Just as I suspected. It's interesting to note that the EBU haven't said what the exact result of the investigation was or what they did indeed investigate . This decision is going to see more broadcasters try and push boundaries. Speaking of which, not a word about Spain's refusal to show the semi final live

It's all fair and well introducing the new rule that makes individual broadcasters responsible for disclosure of privacy of individuals for next years contest, but what about 2009? Talk about closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.

If iTV didn't do anything wrong with regards to the irregularities then I can understand why they haven't been fined, but, if the Azeri government interferes and the voting process cannot be fully free and fair, then Azerbaijan should be barred from taking part until these issues can be resolved.

It's so obvious now that money rules the day in the eurovision song contest now. Countries like Azerbaijan and Belarus just use eurovision for propoganda to try and portray how wonderful their countries are, when the truth is far from it.

Absolutely unbelieveable that Azerbaijan have walked away without so much as a slap on the wrist. I'd be quite interested to hear what, if anything, will happen to those brave souls who complained about their questioning by the Azeri authorities now that the EBU have washed their hands of the situation.

Oh, and boo to the mods for splitting us up again. Wonder how long it will take for BBAnne to find the thread this time?

Hi BBAnne!

I love Come Dine With Me so I'll keep an ear out during the scoring.

249 days until Semi Final 1
251 days until Semi Final 2
253 days until Final

I hope those number are correct, I was never good at maths

So long to wait. At least the first selections start in December, sometimes even earlier so that should keep us all going until the big event itself

I noticed that as well! It's so weird that Divine has become such a well used song, it's been all over the place! Of all the Eurovision songs, I never would have thought it would be one of the most successful! It's like the Volare of the 21st century!

I'm a little surprised that there's been no action against Azerbaijan whatsoever. I mean, not even forcing them to have solely a jury vote rather than televoting (though there'd definately be no points at all for Armenia!). I wonder if Armenia will withdraw in protest?

Speaking of withdrawals this could be the year that sees the most pull outs, Czech Republic is aleady gone, Andorra's looking likely, Hungary's being secretive. Another possibility is Montenegro who I think were really expecting to go through this year and have never really seemed that interested by the contest in the past.

On the plus side it does seem like we'll be seeing Luxembourg back.

It's interesting to note that the Hungarian, Montenegrin & Czech broadcasters have never really put any effort into their eurovision attitudes, so because of this, the public has no real interest and the songs are mostly mediocre.

I personally was gutted when Montenegro failed to qualify for the final, it was a good little song, eurotrash at it's best One of my faves this year.

The debacle this year with the selection of Hungary's eurovision song was a good thing because it highlighted the quality of the songs that were submitted to mtv, it's a shame they sent the one they did.

Ooh, lots of rumours about Jade Ewen becoming the new Sugababe. Wonder if it's true. Shame as I was hoping she'd have a good stab at a solo career. But on the other hand, it means a UK Eurovision entrant probably having a lot of chart success!

I also read this. I think it's doubtful as Jade has the whole world ahead of her, and an upcoming solo album. I think that the Sugababes will be gone by next year. They are constantly changing their line up, and they've come to the end of their career.

A wish of mine too. I'd love to see eurovision reach the heights of hysteria like that in Greece

There's just one problem...Britain's Got Talent

True, but Jade has gone from a relative unknown to possibly on the verge of joining one of the UK's biggest girl groups... quite some feat in just a few months!

It could inspire talent to follow in her footsteps, instead of holding taboos with the Eurovision!

I agree, Ths years Eurovision could have been huge if it was not up against BGT.

And why the hell is Jade joining Sugababes, atleast bring out one album and see how it does before joining some girlband.

No worries, it's Friday night after all

I do agree about Jade though, a lot of eurovision taboos were broken this year hopefully if the BBC keep up with their new attitude to eurovision, the nations attitudes will change also.

While we wait to see if the rumours surrounding Jade are true, and if they are I hope she's got a good strong suit of armour as I can't see her tenure with the Sugababes being a smooth ride to be honest, here's something for all those who cheered Agnes on to success in the UK. It's her follow-up single in all its remixed glory........

Video due soon according to the poster of the clip.

Austria's back! Hopefully they'll try a bit harder next year. It also says that Luxembourg and Litchenstein are still negociating (sp?).

Poland will also be back next year without making a fuss for a change, is their love hate relationship with Eurovision over?
