The book was pretty good. I wonder what, if anything, the series will take from it besides the event itself. I know they had to change a lot, since much of what worked in the book would be difficult logistically for TV.

I'm not sure how much of the book will translate to screen but i do know that Robert J Sawyer who wrote the book is part of the production team and is slated to actually write an episode in the latter half of the season.

I listened to the audio book before watching Ep1 myself.

spoiler:
Apart from the general idea and a few (noticeable) nods, there didn't seem to be that much in common with the novel really, but it is only Ep1 I guess. I read the producer really wanted to make it after reading the book, so no doubt there will be recognisable odds and ends throughout.

Flashforward just starting if there's any night owls.

Fairly rough quality, but watchable.

I like the premise, time will tell if I like the show... it felt a little schizophrenic, but I guess that's to be expected.

One thing that annoyed me is that no one has figured out that what they saw was the future as if the FlashForward had never happened. If it had happened, then the future they would've seen would've been more prepared.

After all, they now know the exact date and time the flashforward shows, surely their future selves could've been more prepared in passing information back to their past selves. The news broadcasts would've addressed it too ("You have blacked out, the entire world has blacked out, please remain calm. This was not a terrorist attack.. blah blah").

So the very fact that they've seen the future has changed the future.

Yeah, obviously the 'future selves' have already experienced the flash, but it must be only one possible future that everyone saw.
I'm curious to see how they get around that, for instance, if I'd been laying in bed at home reading a book, I'd make sure I was abroad drinking a beer at that particular time!

Interesting thing about the finale of the first season, it'll be broadcast at the same time as the flash forward happened in three months time.
Which means we'll have caught up to the flash, but the writers have at least 3 seasons of story minimum.

The book was a completely different entity with a 20 odd year flash, unless they're planning on more flashes I can't really see where it's going.

Early days tho'!

Well, you can't really rely too much on previews (they can be pretty misleading), but the previews kind of implied there are more flashes.

Did this already air in the US? All the ads say "check your local listings"... I thought it aired next week.

There's too much good TV happening right now.

Aired today.. but ABC said they're going to air it again tomorrow (friday) if you missed any of it (or all of it, in your case).

btw, anyone else notice the random appearance of Seth Macfarlane as an FBI agent? Came out of nowhere.

Also caught an Oceanic Airlines billboard near the beginning of the show (and an obvious Desperate Housewives ad on the side of a bus)

Thought it was good for a first show!

Just watched the first episode, I actually thought it was incredibly good and am very much looking forward to the next one; what a fantastic premiere, very clear and easy to follow with a cracking ending.

Won its timeslot as well last night. Beat Survivor: Samoa by 27%.

Debuted with a 7.6/13 rating.

Great news for the show and ABC.

I watched it on justin.tv - spectacular start and some good storylines set up "You're worried that your future comes true; I'm worried mine won't" (wtte). And then another mysterious element (who was that in the stadium?). Will deffo be tuning in next week.
