Graham Norton BBC1

With tonight's episode of Wossy featuring Graham Norton and then next week's start to the supposed "taping war" on Thursday Nights, I thought I'd start a thread.

The first episode in two weeks time is :
Quote:
The award-winning host brings his anarchic talk show to BBC1. In this instalment, trouble and strife with showbiz couple Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, the truth about lying with comedian Ricky Gervais, and Graham finally meets one of his heroines - the legendary Olivia Newton-John.
It does seem interesting and weird at the same time. It is pretty safe and predictable but it is only the first episode of the series. So maybe the guest list will get improve in the next couple of episodes. Then again, Graham's previous shows were never about the famousness of his guests.

Is it just me or does this description seem a bit odd though, as it does seem like the format could be changed with the move to BBC1. Is it still going to be the main guests coming out together and then the music near the end? I know they've had couples on with other guests in previous series (Peter and Katie) but the way this description is structured, it seems a bit odd. Also does Olivia Newton-John have a new album out and wouldn't she be second chair due to her popularity. I mean, she's more well-known than an Estelle or a Mika.

Finally, I am a bit bemused by Ricky Gervais' appearance. For a guy who I thought would never appear on the show. (I saw that episode of Extras), he's been on three consecutive series, The first 2 appearances were for the same movie. Is he now going to oversaturate this show like he did Wossy? I did read an article in the Sun the other day that quoted one insider as saying "He's great friends with Ross, but has more fun on Norton" so we'll see.

BTW, I was just wondering why we haven't seen another perennial Norton favourite on this show yet. Where's Alan Cumming? I've seen him on Graham's shows from V to Bigger Picture, but no appearance on this show?

I thought it was good on BBC2. It was more off kilter with sometimes guests that you wouldn't expect to see on a Primetime BBC1 show. That was it's appeal.

A funny thing I did notice in the trailers for tonights Ross show was how he kept refering to Norton as Gorgeous Graham.
Is it an inside joke or is he just being patronising?

Looking forward to this.

Olivia Newton John must be promoting something...she's on 3 shows (that I know of so far) next week - Graham Norton, Loose Women and Paul O'Grady.
But then again, it's always the case, with people 'doing the rounds' to promote something or other.

Olivia Newton-John in the UK

AS with every Celebrity on every chat show - of course Olivia Newton-John is promoting something.

Olivia and her new husband John Easterling are in the UK to link up with Prince Charles - Rainforest Project.

Olivia probably will talk about her life and career, her Cancer Centre Charity, the fundraising walk that she did last year, and about the Amazon Rainforest.

Olivia and her husband are very involved in several projects to Save and Protect the Amazon Rainforest and its Shipibo natives.

In June they took part in a Conference in Peru just weeks after 20 or more Shipibo Indians were killed whilst trying to protest about Oil Explorarion in their native lands.

They also work with ACEER (Amazon Centre for Environmental Education and Research) to raise awareness of the DESTRUCTION of the Rainforest.

Oneway they are positively helping is by promoting the use of Natural Rainforest Herba, Fruits and Plants to provide sustainable employment for the natives and to show that logging is not the only source of income.

You can SEE and HEAR Olivia in person here

http://eddie.drinkzamu.co.uk/ZamuOnTour2009UK.aspx

in London and Bournemouth this week

Destroying the Rainforest is destroying our environment and eventually will destroy our planet and our lives.!!

Yeah I know she is promoting something, but usually Graham's shows are usually two guests who come out at the same time and then towards the end of the show a musical guest comes out at the end to sing the show out.

With the recap I posted above, You have three guests who will be talking and no musical performance, so that made me think that the show is going to be different with the change in network.

Did Graham say anything of note on Ross?

Sorry to repost but I just saw the listing for Episode 2 with the preliminary cast list.(There should be one more guest TBD)

The Graham Norton Show

Monday 12 October
10:35pm - 11:20pm
BBC1

The award-winning host continues his anarchic talk show. Expect the unexpected as top celebrity guests join in the fun with Graham and his irrepressible audience. Among the guests are top comedians David Mitchell and Robert Webb, while Scottish songster Paolo Nutini chats and performs his new single Pencil Full of Lead. Plus, more foolhardy viewers brave the collapsing red chair in another round of That's All We've Got Time For.
I've got a bad feeling about this. Not to knock the comedic guests, but we're not getting anybody new except for the music. Also it looks as if they're putting more games elements to the show, I guess like So Graham Norton.

I'm just a bit confused. I liked the BBC2 version where you just had the 2 guests coming out at the same time with music at the end. This new series,as I first thought, is probably going to have them on the show one at a time.

First of all, why tamper with a perfectly acceptable formula and secondly, can they give us more variety in guests?

Bumping this topic up for the premiere tonight.

There is a preview clip on Youtube where it seems that the show will have the same look as it did when it was on BBC2.

I saw this being recorded on Thursday and it was great especially Ozzy and Sharon, can't reveal too much but nothing has been changed and still as good as it was when it was BBC Two.

I thought it was a very funny show this week. Don't like the sound of next week's line-up to be honest, but that is how it goes with chat shows I suppose.

Agree with this. Not a Gervais fan at all but was worth it to watch Sharon and Ozzy. Brilliant stuff Don't think I'll be watching next weeks line up though

Graham Norton I find very dull to watch as he never seems to give much of himself. I watched a documentary a number of years back he did in Brazil and he was much more human and real in that. Stop trying to give people what you think they want and be yourself!

You could see Shazza gritting her teeth through her fake face. Firstly because Ozzy was doing all the talking and getting all the laughs and then because she was totally outshone by the pretty decent looking 61 year old aussie.

Has Olivia Newton John been in a fight or does she just have a bad surgeon?

Have to agree personally I find Norton a one trick pony, his shows are much the same format & it only really improves if his guest/s are up for a laugh.

I cite Martin Sheen & jackie Chan as two examples but aside from that Norton is vastly over rated.

IMHO

There's a clear difference in Graham when he's in his element and giggling in his chat show and when he's taking over other people's gigs like Eurovision or their radio shows when he seems disinterested.

The latter.

All they needed to do was bring in Joan Rivers alongside Olivia and Shazza Osbourne and it would have been like watching a plastic surgery patients' convention.

i absolutely hate Ricky Gervais but the show was just about saved by Ozzy who cracked a hell of a lot more jokes than the so called comedian Gervais

Sharon basically could have just sat in the audience with the amount she said

I noticed for the new series, the opening/closing credit sequences seem to have been swapped .

So far, I don't like the newly-introduced 'That's All We've Got Time For' feature at the end - embarrassing. Elsewhere, a few recycled guests already - Ricky Gervais (I wished for something to come up and weirdly, it did! Subtitles had something like "Ricky Gerv a ie" - typed by Mr Walsh? Shortly corrected after ) and of course, Katie.

Tonight, we had the three amigos on the book bandwagon. I tried fast-forwarding through Katie's parts as it was obviously quite uninteresting (I don't want to sound nasty). Was really hoping to see Jo Brand (or again, temporarily "Marlon Brando" in the subtitles!), but she and Jackie Collins were unfortunately second-billing.

I didn't watch it (though I usually find Norton mildly amusing). I refuse to increase Ms Price's viewing figures (just as I won't watch Griffin on QT later in the week).

I'd have loved to see a good interview between Graham and Jackie Collins, but I have too much respect for myself to endure the hideous Jordan, so I skipped this week. It's not as if she'd let anyone else get any attention anyway.

Got to agree about the bit at the end. Didn't they do something similar as a one-off in the last series, which was fine, but as a proper feature it is weak.

Totally agree with the posters above. Graham needs to revamp the format and ditch the cringe worthy end piece.
Glad to see he didn't let Jordan have it all her own way too. (Apparently they edited out a rant, good job too).
