Software Update

My Amstrad DRX280 appears to have been updated, with one noticeable change: Auto Standby moving from the Sky+ Set Up sub menu to the top level of the Services menu.

New software details:
OS Version: 1.31B10
EPG Software: 5.07.u

I've only had this box for about two weeks so not sure if it's a brand new update or my box is just catching up with the latest software. Can anyone confirm?

EDIT: the 'Telephone Numbers' section has also been updated with new/corrected numbers.

Its on 5.04e which it as been for a while , changing with 5.02f a couple of times to rectify the problem the boxes had

I think you are first in the queue for the later software

Ah, the main purpose has become clear: the new update makes Auto Standby active all day. The box will turn off after 4 hours of inactivity during the day, like the regular Sky boxes.

Also, HD listings on the EPG have been removed and replaced with "To receive HD call..."

I don't think there is anything else apart from the above, unless there's any stability or minor bug fixes.

Has no one else got it yet?

My Amstrad DRX280 is still on 5.0.4.e at the moment.

Given previous experiences, I shall await the update with much trepidation... May be the smell of burning hardware or grinding disk drives in the middle of the night will be an earlier indication of it taking place than the dreaded early morning 998.

Not that I lack any confidence in the quality of Sky software updates of course.

One more thing i've discovered: Trying to view a channel you don't subscribe to now invites you to press red to subscribe, which takes you to the Sky Active upgrade service.

So to summarise -

EPG Version 5.07.u
* New menu position for Auto Standby
* Auto Standby now active all day
* Telephone Numbers updated
* HD listings removed
* Press red to upgrade subscription option

If this forum is anything to go by it seems to have had a very limited roll out so far.

Freezing picture on channels

Hi all,

Quick question;
My Amstrad DRX280 is version 5.0.4.e at the moment and the picture freezes sometimes, even though it's a clear day/night. It only gets back to normal when I change to another channel.

It happend 2x tonight, on Ch 126 Comedy Central and Ch 106 Sky1.

Any ideas?

Faulty box, etc?

Best wishes, Respect and Peace!

Does your HD+ box have to connected to a telephone line to receive the new software update?

Look at your signal levels and try swapping your box into a friends set up to see if replicates in another set up

I've now got this update and have noticed the following. When you set a one-hour drama (NCIS/Bones/Saving Grace/whatever) it generally reported the disc space required as 6-7%,whilst the actual recording used between 3-5% depending on the channel and bitrate. Now,recordings are still using 3-5%,but the 'space required' figure prior to recording has almost doubled! For instance,tonights entries for NCIS and Life On Mars USA on FX are both reporting 'disc space required 13%! Casualty reports as requiring 11%. It doesn't seem to be channel specific as nearly all recordings I've got scheduled seem to be affected. However,the interesting one is Fringe (Sun 25th) and Bones (Thurs 29th),both on Sky 1,Bones is reporting 13% needed whilst Fringe still says 7%,as it was before the update.

I wonder if this update has addressed the issue of existing timer recording times being incorrect when the clocks are changed?

I have noticed this as well. I also have a box that records
20 hours only. The programmes still use the same amount as before.

Well all scheduled recordings that were added before the clock change are still showing the correct time. However,as usually happens,all recordings made before the clock change are now showing a 'recorded at' time of one hour earlier than they actually were,ie Bones from last Thursday now says it was recorded at 8.00pm rather than 9.00pm.

I believe the problem used to be that recordings made before the clock change showed on the planner as the incorrect time worrying people whether they would be recorded at the correct time. What time the recording was actually made before the clock change is of little importance I would have thought, compared to that of getting the correct time of any planned recordings.

This is a big improvement as we usually get dozens of posts here when the clocks change from people concerned that their recordings will be made at the correct time.

My Amstrad box has not have had any updates since the last 5.04E update several months ago.

I realise the fact that a programme which was recorded before the clock change at,say,10pm,now says it was recorded at 9pm isn't really important,however it's still a software bug,albeit not an important one which is probably why they haven't,or can't be,bothered to fix it.
