No ITV 3 & 4 after retune

And no its not a technical fault they have been removed.

My local relay has only been swiched over a few weeks and already we loose 2 fairly popular channels.

Channel 5 is now on the ITV CH4 Mux but had to loose ITV 3 & 4 to make room .

Some people would have lost these channels after the retune. If you didn't have Channel 5 in your area before the retune then this will be why.

But C5 was available to the relay stations before Sept 30, it was carried by PSB 3. It's moved now to PSB 2, but ITV 3 and 4 are now on COM muxes.

It makes me cross, because Freeview's spin that C5 is being provided to compensate for the loss of ITV 3/4 is utter rubbish.

I was dreading this re-tune, thinking I too might lose ITV 3 &4 which I watch quite a lot of. We already received Five anyway, so I would have been VERY angry to lose two stations for the sake of one that I hardly watch, and received it anyway! Luckily - everything came back as normal.
But I feel for those who have lost those channels. It's just not fair.

This was pretty well documented.

http://www.tvretune.co.uk/faqs/index.php#36

What changes happen after I re-tune?

After the re-tune, channel Five coverage on Freeview will increase. Many households will be able to receive Five for the first time from 30 September.

A new channel, ‘Quest’, will launch on channel 38 on Freeview.

As a result of these technical changes, viewers in areas that have completed switchover who receive their signal from a local relay transmitter will no longer be able to receive ITV3 and ITV4 on Freeview.

The Community Channel will no longer be available on Freeview in areas that have completed switchover.

Channels available on Freeview are subject to change.

This is due to the reorganisation required to allow the PSB broadcasters to xmit HD channels on PSB muxes via relays.

Contact all the PSB broadcasters and tell you don't want HD on relays xmitters.

Relays sites can only xmit 3 muxes... unless the pixies do come to the rescue.

If anyone is on a post DSO relay and is unhappy with 'Freeview Lite',why not try receiving DTT from a main station, even if is a different regional service.
It's surprising how many viewers don't realise, that they can receive a main station and have been relying on a relay, for years. It's worth a go!

I have gained Five, lost ITV3 but ITV4 remains.

Don't usually both ITV3 and ITV4 disappear together?

That's as they should be. ITV3 on A and ITV4 on D.

My itv4 has gone and I found itv3 by accident on 800. The only thing is it has a big advert [telling me 5 has moved] and to watch anything on there I have to record it?

I do have a Humax, so might try the default thing.

This is quite true. Here in Weymouth most people have their aerials pointing to the Weymouth relay TX in Wyke Regis, yet many people could probably get a decent enough reception from either Rowridge or Stockland Hill...

I wonder if there's a case for re-arranging the channels so that any timeshift channels, for a start, are moved to a Mux receivable on the full Freeview service so that channels lost on 'Freeview Lite' are regained where that Mux isn't transmitted.

Where in Essex are you, and what transmitter are you currently pointed at?

Can you point over the water to Bluebell Hill in Kent? I do, and get all the channels OK.

Rgds.

For many people, ITV3 is/was one of the better "minor" channels.

I might be unique, but I occasionally watched ITV3, and never watch ITV1.

Cheers,
David.

Moving 3 & 4 ... and not moving 2+1 instead of 3 or 4 was a perverse choice of ITV.

It was not. ITV had no choice but to move one channel because Ofcom forced them to accept FIVE.

The other move was inevitable if ITV wanted to broadcast ITV1 +1 as this is regional. ITV3 & ITV4 are not regional and will sit nicely on a national multiplex where ITV can retain all their advertising revenue from these channels even though they will only have 90% of households with terrestrial access to them.

Previously ITV had to share ITV3 & 4 revenue with stv and UTV. Now they all have the option of running a timeshifted main channel if they want. The only thing that ITV did wrong was fail to consult the Competition Commission before making the changes.

ITV are not to blame for Ofcom removing one channel from their multiplex, yet mysteriously not doing the same to Channel Four, who were supposed to host a BBC channel. It seems that ITV lose and C4 gains.

The fact that ITV2 +1 remains temporarily until ITV1 +1 is cleared, is a minor hiccup in the big world of television. I am sure that ITV is charging stv and UTV a market rate for broadcasting it. They can always put their own channel on as they are always refusing to pay for ITV shows.

I think you will find that STV own the broadcasting spectrum currently used to broadcast ITV 2 on Freview in Scotland - they could presumably take it back for their own channel like S2 from a few years back which they closed and did a transmission deal for ITV 2 with ITV.

There is a reason 500,000 people lost ITV 3 and ITV 4 plus 6 or 7 more possible channels.

Ofcom feel everyone would rather have an option to buy another new box for have ITV1, ITV2, and CH4 to be repeated as a HD channel.

Is that really what people preferred?

Incorrect ... the PSB broadcasters decided they wanted to offer HD services.

There are 3 PSB muxes so one of those had to be converted...

Typical misinformation the PSB muxes are there to carry PSB channels...

Anyway we are not far away from the day ITV is no longer a PSB broadcaster.

Or perhaps The Conservative will convert PSB2 to a national COM mux and sell the capacity to the highest bidder ... that would be an interesting way for Sky to gain national coverage for PICNIC.

A slip of the finger off the n key ...

No you aren't unique. I can honestly say I never watch ITV1 but will also occasionally find something worthwhile on ITV2 or 3.

After re-tuning for what feels like the millionth time, I now have ITV3 back. Plus Fiver and Five USA. I guess I have the complete set now.
