Emma BBC1
A new adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma is just starting on BBC1 now.
The new adaptation will air across October on 4 consecutive Sunday nights with hour long installments. Anybody watching? |

I like this very much so far. How many episodes are there, does anyone know? They seem to be going into a lot of detail.
Ha! Harriet is making me laugh, I love how she's a bit slow on the uptake. |

Watching now but not for much longer. I've given up listening for one authentic line of dialogue.

I watched the first 10 mins and hated it. Watching Doc Martin now.

Wasn't Blake Ritson in the abymsal Mansfield Park two years ago? He must have a fondness for Jane Austen!

I liked it. The fact they are fleshing it out (even with events not in the book) is good I think, because it sets it apart from recent adaptations like the film and the Kate Beckinsale version. If they whipped through it in two hours like the other versions it would be too much like them.
Love all the casting. Jonny Lee Miller is clearly not 16 years older than Romola Garai, but that's a combination of him being too young and her being too old! Think a lot of Knightley fans will take issue with it though. |

... I actually really enjoyed that ... it was definitely in the spirit of Emma ... and while I know Emma lived a privilidged and luxary life, things were very bright and light and airy and very lacking in mud ... felt more ITV than BBC in it's production ... aaah well! |

... yup, he was the only decent thing in it ... and as he was playing the uptight and prissy sap Edmund that was no mean feat, specially opposite Bouncing Billy ...

I've not read the book, or seen any previous adaptations, but I thoroughly enjoyed this tonight. Looking forward to the remaining episodes.
