It also mentions HD. If it's Chello does that mean we are taking FTA HD channels?

I assume it will be American programming, which is a bit of a bugger when it comes to food as their measurements are all in "cups".

No, "The Food Network will be part of the basic tier." http://www.broadbandtvnews.com/2009/...mes-to-europe/ the HD will require the HD subscription pack.

This will properly use one of the Chello EPG slots.

Once again, Sky has their grubby hands on yet another channel .

Not really a basic channel when you will have to take the Lifestyle package for it no doubt.

I suppose free channels on Sky are not viable unlike if space is there on DTT.

If you go to any cookware shop over here now, all kitchen measuring equipment has cup measurements now!!!!

Also, if you go to any recipe on the channels website, all measurements are converted!!!!

So, no excuse!!!!!!!

This is what I don't understand?

Surely a "cup" of flour is lighter than a "cup" of caster sugar?

How can one measuring jug have "cup" measurements on it?

How does it know what it's measuring?

Because it's measuring volume, not weight.

It's crap.

I have an american cookery book that also tells me to put in "2 sticks of butter". I have no idea what that is, but then I saw a programme recently where another US resident talked about something measuring 2.6 inches long.

Excellent, introduce some metric into an imperial measurement.

Another thing is, cooking techniques and terms in the US and the UK are totally different!! For example, "broil" is "roast", a "skillet" is a "frying-pan", a "broiler" is a "roasting tin" a "pitcher" is a "jug", a "crepe" is a "pancake", a "pancake"(The type Americans have in their breakfasts) is a "griddle cake", a "biscuit" is a "scone", etc, etc.

I remember when I lived in the USA, I tried to make cakes the same way as I do here in the UK and every cake I made over there turned out a failure, cos for one thing ingredients in the US are totally different from the same ingredients as here!! For example, their flour is totally different from our flour!!! Somehow, even their eggs are different than ours, even their sugar as well!! Also in recipes they have different oven settings depending on where you live in the USA, either high up in mountainous elevations or at ground or sea levels!! That as well was another reason why my cakes turned out failures!!! I never took that into consideration!!! So, in future, if I wanted to make nice cakes I had to switch over to the American ways and use American recipes!!!

I guess, really, its just a case of trial and error before you get it right!!!!

Sounds like this channel will be completely pointless then!

"The international version of the channel will include original programming from the countries and regions it will reach, said Scripps, as well as shows that were produced for US audiences."

An American Food Network would be a great addition. I wonder how long if ever they actally add the HD channel. Nice to have anohter channel like Rush HD that can run most of its programming in native.

i was beside myself with excitement this morning when i read FN was starting up on Sky, as whenever i've visited the states on holiday i always watch for any spare moments. i also have downloaded many excellent programmes with personalities like rachel ray, guy fieri and bobby flay, who wouldn't get a look in on UKTV Food. they would show up the likes of extremely dull rachel (boring) allen, james (so up himself) martin , gary (pretentious beyond belief) rhodes and rick (know the scripts by heart) stein . i would also just love to see progarmming here from paula deen, aaron mccargo, sandra lee, those accents would be fascinating!
i just hope that programming will be representitive of their website, and although we will get nigella and jamie, there are many more food TV programmes that can be very entertaining!
