Craig Kelly trying to be Tom Chambers??

Did anyone else notice the similarlity 'storyline' given to Craig Kelly on Saturday. Saying he was Fred Astraire/Gene Kelly acting for the quick step and that he was recently married to his new wife (who happens to be called Camilla!).

It seemed as if they were trying to create a storyline for him which seemed to help Tom last year.

If you know more about the celeb the more the audience like them.

And I was a Tom Chambers fan by every means and it had nothing to do with his wedding storyline. I do like Craig but he's nowhere near Tom standard.

Craig Kelly trying to be Tom Chambers??

or

The BBC trying to make CK into TC?? (why come up with an original storyline when you can just copy/paste one from last year!)

Why is there a need to make up an "angle"? There are enough emerging naturally this year as it is, for example:
- The unexpected impact of Ricky Groves.
- The unexpected ineptness of Joe and just how close to clonking Craig he and his Mum will get
- The "will Ian survive Jade?" spectacle
- Tuffers' knee
- Ali and Brian (and I certainly wouldn't blame him...)
- How much more extreme can Lynda's gurning get?
- What on earth will an Anton Paso Doble look like?

Not really, I think it is two innocuous statements together, and I think he is already coming across well. Trying hard but it hasn't clicked yet. I think latin will be more his thing.

He's just so serious all the time! Both he and Flavia seem introverted, so there is really no personality to go with the (rather mediocre) dancing.

Can't really see the link myself.

Craig has had a character and a story for every dance he's done. So has loads of other celebs over the years and I'm sure Tom Chambers wasn't the only one to mention Fred/Gene would be the dream people to emulate.

And well the marriage thing.....loads of them get their wives/kids/friends into the training room to watch them and talk about them on camera.

I haven't completely given up on poor Craig. I'm hoping he'll be this years Gethin, he took a bit of time to warm up as far as i can remember

I really worry for craig and do not see who would vote for him.I can't see anything in him that makes him stand out.I do think he is a nice guy, but no way is that enough to shine in a show like strictly with so many big personalities.I don't think he and Flavia have any chemistry, and his dancing isn't great. To top it off he seems a bit dull and lacking any personality....Also in the press,on the forums and even on IIT he is overlooked and I dont think people care for him either way.I do think he needs to come to life a bit or he will be gone as the Flav fans seem to be the only ones with a remote interest in him.!

No, I've loved him for years, I can't be the only one

I don't think he's dull at all, I much prefer people who aren't loud and in your face all the time.

I can't say I love him but, I do hope that avoiding the dance-off has given him a bit more confidence. We're hearing all about the women's nerves but, imho Craig seems to be the person who is really suffering at the mo.

You're not the only one.

I think he just needs to get over his nerves and he'll be fine.

I voted for him last Saturday, because I was genuinely worried he'd be in the dance off. I think if he could get over his nerves and loosen up a bit, he'd be a lot better. Saturday's dance was almost painful to watch - I really wish he'd just smiled through it. If he'd have looked like he was enjoying it, I could have too...

But yeah, I don't want him to leave just yet. Not while Joe and Lynda are still stomping around the floor anyway.

I'll be voting for him too, at least until Joe, Lynda and Jo have gone!

I don't know why but I just find Craig really unappealing and can't warm to him. I don't dislike him but he barely inspires a lukewarm 'meh'. I really don't know why.

Dont know what it is about Craig, but I just cant warm to him. His dancing is not good, his body is a bit floppy or something. I would like to see him improve but I dont think it will happen.

I don't think it was a deliberate thing (Tom's wife's name is Clare ) - we are being given a bit of background to all the celebs now and they can't really go too much into his work as it's for a rival channel (I think!)
Maybe there was nothing else of interest to say

I found myself comparing a few of the celebs with last year's offerings:

Chris for Austin, Phil/Ricky G for Tom, Zoe for Cherie (possibly because of James), poor Kristina must think lightening DOES strike twice and - in some strange way - Craig reminds me of Julian Clary in looks
(No offence to ANYBODY intended)

How many other actors who danced that kind of dance would Craig have heard of?

I think you are reading too much into it.

I agree. Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire must have been mentioned on SCD loads of times by people other than Tom.
