BT Vision become very attractive

I currently have SKY+HD with the full Movies and Sport package and an extra multi-room subscription taking it up to roughly £70 per month

We do watch TV more than we should and while very reluctant to leave SKY because of the Sport and HD that attraction of saving money AND the use of BT's TV Replay is becoming very strong!

How is BT's Replay service?

TV replay is an absolute godsend mate. You cant get EVERYTHING on replay and the broadcaster chooses what they think should be on there and they're usually on the money.

If I forgot to record something or someone recommends a programme that was on last night - more often than not it's on BT TV Replay.

Lastly, stuck for something to watch ? - there's usually something on BT TV Replay

TV Replay is good IMO.
It has most stuff on it - covers most of the main big programs BBC/ITV/C4/C5 have.
I like it - it beats using iPlayer on a laptop.

TV Pack in general gets mixed reviews. I don't watch much on it, but it is like have a DVD Box Set on Demand. I've got The Soprano's earmarked to watch.

Sport wise Sky wins hands down for coverage, but depends on how many games you watch a season. The Sport Pack with the Prem games on demand is useful.

Vision as a PVR - works a treat, just like Sky+ for recording.

All the best.

Another thing - go to one of the BT Kiosks if you are not sure about making the switch.
I've seen them in shopping centres.

They may be able to run you through a demo of using Vision and demo the On Demand content.

Don't forget free ESPN if you subscribe to at least 2 of their packs

Horses for courses, I hardly ever use TV replay, but absolutely love the TV pack and use it all the time. I've watched all sorts of stuff that I didn't bother to watch when it was on 'live'. You can watch an episode of something to see if you like it or not and if you do then you can watch the whole series. I have the bronze pack and so also have access to Picturebox and the sports pack, but I hardly ever watch either. When my renewal comes up in a couple of months, I'm probably going to just pay for the TV pack, because that is pretty much all I use.

Dont forget - BTVision is the ONLY place where you can see the full 90 minutes (or highlights if you prefer) of 3pm Saturday games. They become available at 10pm on match day. It is great to catch games not televised by Sky - especially if there are goal fests that you dont want to miss out on

Sounds very good then! I'll really miss the sport in HD if I leave SKY!

For my sins I am a Man Utd Fan... will all these games be on the Vision box at 10pm or only selected games?

No, not all of Man Utd's matches will on the Vision box at 10pm. This is to do with the contracts to show live matches from Sky & ESPN.

Every season in the Premier League, there are a total of 380 games. This season, Sky will show 92 of these games live and ESPN 46. From next season, Sky will show 115 and ESPN 23. Either way, this leaves 242 matches that will not be televised live. These 242 games are the ones that end up on the BT Vision box. This agreement with the Premier League is due to expire at the end of the 2010/11 season I think - but I could be wrong there.

Midweek games which are not shown live will end up on the BT Vision box too. Therefore, if a Wednesday night match kicks-off at either 7.45pm or 8.00pm and it's not being shown live on Sky or ESPN, then it will be available to watch during the early hours of Thursday morning.

Using your club, Man Utd as an example over the last couple of weeks and also the next few weeks ahead........
Sun 20th Sept - Man City - 4pm kick-off was live on Sky. Not available later on BT Vision's Sports pack.
Sat 3rd Oct - Sunderland 5.30pm kick-off was live on ESPN - not available later on the Sports pack, although it may have become available later in the week on ESPN replay. You have to have ESPN (free with either the Bronze, Silver or Gold packs) to view ESPN replay.
Sat 17th Oct - Bolton 3pm kick-off - no live coverage. Available to watch in full or in a 45 minute highlights package at 10pm that night on the Sports pack.
After this, Man Utd play Liverpool away (Sky), Blackburn home (ESPN), Chelsea away (Sky), Everton home (ESPN) and then Portsmouth away (not televised).

As a result, with Man Utd being such an attractive option for Sky and ESPN, then many of their games will not end up on BT Vision. Only two of their next six league fixtures (Bolton at home & Portsmouth away) will end up to view in full later in the evening on BT Vision.

I'm thinking of upgrading to a Bronze package, which I *think* will let me have access to ESPN for the one off cost...do they show much rugby, or is it really a football channel?

cheers

Rugby is limited to the French league I believe, I really enjoy watching it but thats it. Once a week..

bronze gives you ESPN for a one off charge of a tenner.

Its not worth upgrading though IMO unless you really like Soccer, UFC or MLB they are the majority sports.

whats your problem.?

the OP will either agree or disagree, up to them.

do you honestly believe that the amount of live rugby on BTV is worth upgrading for.?

I do because I cant get cable or sky. and lets not forget BT vision has ESPN and ESPN Replay. yes the extra replay service is included within the same price. and ESPN is free on a value pack.

thats fine then, thats YOUR opinion.

If the OP has 1 pack or even no packs as it stands and his main desire is to watch live Rugby then I would disagree that paying an extra £7 or £14 a month for 2 hours worth of it per week is worth it. Thats my opinion and is also fine.

lets let the OP make his own mind up.

is there anything on ESPN replay yet? Honest question, I can't check as my card is MIA.

edit. is rugby on Skyplayer?

But ESPN is naff, ok it comes free with viewing packs and if you want the viewing packs anyway then fine. But certainly not worth paying for.

Picture quality is awful, it is like watching a you tube video filmed with a cheap video camera.

If you like the sport in HD prepare for some shocking picture quality on ESPN. I have it through BT Vision but seriously considered getting it via Sky too - just so I'd at least get the HD channel.

ESPN is not the greatest - but certainly watchable.

Bronze pack is good value for money if you were to total the individual costs for the various packs and ESPN.

The way I see it, I'm getting it gratis so can't complain.

True, but it would depend (IMO) if the OP could derive any value benefit from the other parts of the bronze package.

Correct, you cant take a game of proper mens Rugby - turn into a boys game by wearing padding & helmets and then call it Football lol !.

Indeed, you've said yourself elseware that the TV replay & the kids pack is good stuff. These and other packs are more than likely to add value to the OPs requirements.
