Lite FM / Connect FM UPDATE

Mark Jeeves is back on air in Northamptonshire covering the show vacated by Tom Hooper.

Keith Dalton almost served out his notice leaving Mikey Clarke, Ian Sharp and Greg Nunney as the only staff presenters left.

With Sharpy on Connect Drive and Mikey doing Lite FM drive when they relaunch as hit music, will Greg still be on breakfast? Heard Jeeves will do Connect Breakfast with a host of names being talked about for Lite FM Breakfast. Does this mean Nunney is on the way out too?

Why on earth has Mark Jeeves left a national station playing music he likes to join a tin pot local station playing dross.

Why start another thread when there is already one on all of this?

Anyway, in my view, I would like to see Greg gone from the breakfast show - I find him cheesy, corny and very its all about me.

As for Keith, its a great loss, but I am glad that this means the end of that terrible Saturday Morning show with that giggling, airhead sidekick.

Would have liked to have seen Gary Ball stay.

According to: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/radio/ifi/rb...fc/litecon.pdf
He has been Managing Director since at least August, maybe that and a daily programme on Planet Rock is too much.

If I had the choice of afternoons on Planet Rock or the oppurtunity to go run two struggling stations with financial backing and the support of the biggest radio company in the UK I know what I'd choose. As for proof about hit music format I don't have anything concrete. But:

All the older staff are being let go or have gone already

Playlist now versus April this year has got progressively more upbeat and tighter

The reason given to those being let go is the introduction of networking. Expect Lite / Connect to follow the template used at Mercury and Ten 17.

Everybody laughed at the suggestion Jeeves would move to Lite / Connect. Everybody dismissed that he would do a daily show. People refused to admit that there would be a clear out before it happened. And if you ask anybody who works at Heart, the general feeling amongst staff there is that they are now owned by the same people and there will be a lot more co-operation between the two station (including possible sharing of facilities).

Personally I think Queensgate would be too crowded for Lite, Heart and Gold, let alone Connect aswell. This will be a gradual change with possible rebranding of one or both stations in January.

From what I recall Global still own Ten 17, but Adventure run the station on their behalf unlike Mercury which is owned by AR.

Gold shouldn't be an issue as bar 4 hours a day, it's networked from London and the local show is voicetracked, which shouldn't take that long to produce.

If you heard any of his lunchtime show on Connect FM all last week you'd say he wasn't qualified enough to be working on a so called 'tin pot local station'!! Bland, Boring, Unoriginal and Amateurish are words that come to mind!

The More Music Breakfast Show

Just looked at Lite & Connect's websites.
It is saying that Greg is now doing Breakfast on both stations.

I thought Breakfast had to be live and not networked on each?

As for the new name of the Breakfast show, how sad. Two local stations now trying to be more music based then local.

All seems a bit all over the place for my local radio diet.

I have not really thought much of either of these stations output over the past 18 months. I hoped these stations would get sorted with a new owner, but all we now hear is less choice, less DJ variety and much less local information.

From what I hear now it seems that local news and traffic reports are really the only local content.

I really want to listen to these two local stations, but, I can't believe Im going to say this, Heart Peterborough is sounding more local that Lite FM these days.

Is any of Lite FM live and local anymore? If breakfast is also being shared/voicetracked with Connect FM then I take it even the local travel bulletins must be recorded? Wonder how up-to-date they are?

Lite FM's live stream down again this morning.

Seems strange it is down since Greg has been doing Breakfast on both stations.

The website still says Gary Ball is on air now, even though the schedule says otherwise.

I'm thinking of making a complaint to ofcom about the dumbing down of Lite FM Breakfast.

Can anyone tell me the correct proceedure?

[edit] How found out how. The link is here:

The answer.
We are not responsible for deciding which programmes are broadcast when - this is the job of the broadcasters.

You may wish to contact the broadcaster directly to express your views.

Hmmmmm what about if you feel the broadcaster is not doing what the licence says they must?

Im sure Ofcom would'nt be impressed to know that Lite FM is voicetracked at peak times - how can that be within their remit? Having said that... do Ofcom care about the local radio listener these days?

Just copied this from the ofcom website for Lite FM:

Locally-made hours - At least 10 hours a day during daytime weekdays (must include breakfast). At least 4 hours daytime Saturdays and Sundays.

So Im guessing that as Connect & Lite are in the same building, If Greg voicetracks either of these stations during breakfast, it is deemed as "Locally made"?

Shocking! Especially as Lite FM has now lost its localness in Breakfast. In fact, it seems to sound these days that they are trying to copy a Magic Radio style more music breakfast show.

Whats the point in having a so called local station when really all you are doing is trying to make a weak clone of a bigger station?

I feel really let down by Connect & Lite. I listen to both as I drive to work across both stations coverage area.

For me it was always a pleasure to stop having to listen to Greg when I could pick up Lite. This week I am double doomed!

The Lite FM breakfast show has been so dumbed down its an insult.

Nobody has a good word to say about this Greg fella do they.

Is this another case of more talented people being axed from the station in favour of a lapdog who jumps to whatever height demanded by the management but in practice is as dull as dishwater?

I believe that Mr Nunney will be gone soon enough. Rumour suggests that Lite and Connect are making a play for some new talent. Names included in these rumours include Joe Rudd, Simon Rowe, Richard Garey and Steve Reid. Jeeves is still my tip for breakfast on what is Connect, Simon Rowe or Joe Rudd to take breakfast on Lite with Mikey Clarke on Lite Drive and Ian Sharp on Connect Drive with networking from Nottingham at all other times. Don't see where Garey or Reid fit in, a bit edgy outside of breakfast.

Have you heard his Car Karaoke feature. It has to be one of the worst bits of breakfast radio I have ever heard. I'm praying he does not bring it to Lite FM Breakfast now.

Its just an excuse for him to sing all over a song in full at peak time radio!

Also I have noticed that comments from folks complaining about the current changes on the Lite FM Facebook have been removed.
