The Fourth Kind

Anyone going to see this?

It looks really good but scary, it's based on true storys & events, it's got real footage with reconstructions. But I'm not sure is it about aliens or demons? Tge but where the man is hovering in his bed looks scary it made me creep out just by watching the trailer.

It's one of those "based on a true events film" where you can bet the only truth is someone went missing, the rest is all made up crap with tonnes of publicity and hype to make it sound true.
I read somewhere there are sites around containing supposedly true footage and interviews, which funnily enough have only just been registered and setup in the last month or two.

The sort of site, is similar to one they done for the TV series Heroes, as follows

Yeah it's not actually true. They took the viral marketing idea and really stretched it. There were actually some questions regarding whether not the campaign was ethical and responsible.

You're prob being fooled by deliberately grainy and / or shaky footage designed to look as if its from a camcorder or other weak source.
Advertisers use a similar trick by showing close ups of "ordinary" peoples nose/hand/ etc, to make you think that the testimony is unrehearsed and filmed on the spare of the moment.
When in fact, the super-duper cholestorol eliminating, milk shake, mr and Mrs average are plugging is in fact scripted and performed by models/actors, and furthermore, in reality, a load of old b*ll*cks!!

Looking forward to seeing this even if I will probably be scared silly by it.

The hype surrounding the 'real' footage is great for marketing..probably in the same vein as The Strangers/Haunting in Connecticut/Amytivlle etc being true stories too

I'm no medical expert, but if you're hovering (or even hoovering) 3 foot over your bed, Probably best make an appointment with your G.P.-it might be a sign of something else!

Looks a good film .. if your looking for something similar then watch the Communion which is based on real events for the writer Whitley Strieber .. the guys who wrote "The day after tomorrow" recent film with Denis Quaid .. Communion is a good film with Christopher Walken playing the part of Mr Strieber ... though it looks like aliens in the film .. Strieber never ever says in his books about his abductions that they are aliens .. maybe another dimension or something along these lines ... I'm defo going to see the Fourth Kind looks kinda scary which is what I like ...

Saw The Fourth Kind earlier tonight. Knew little about it going in, other than it being about alien abductions.

If you're a fan of Fire in the Sky, Close Encounters and Communion, you should enjoy this. The presentation; real life interview, actual video and audio footage (was it?), presented alongside the dramatized events was a new way to spin this genre tale and worked well.

Being a sucker for alien abduction movies, I thought this was pretty darn good! There were a couple of real scares (nearly choked on my Malteser at one scene!) and disturbing images, namely the hypnotised victims re-enacting their experiences. Though not a horror film at all, this was much scarier than Paranormal Activity I thought. Some images I'm still thinking about....

8/10 from me...just make sure you put your popcorn down.

Also saw this today and agree with the above post, however i haven't seen Paranormal Activity so can't comment if it's scarier. It's certainly not a horror film but there certainly are at least 2/3 big scares that are very very creepy and unsettling. It is very well acted.

But to get to the nitty gritty, it's all fake. It's a dramatisation of real archive video footage? Based on true events? Yeah right! It's publicity to market and sell the movie - get bums on seats - and that's all.

I saw this this afternoon and it's still unsettling me.
IF the footage is real, then it's terrifying.
If it's staged, then it's a good thriller/film.
Surely, someone, somewhere MUST know whether it's "real" or not??
