Bad sore arm after flu jab

Worst i have ever felt it this time, had the jab this morning and was in and out after 20 secs, nurse just jabbed it in me then rushed off. Normally in the past she took a little more time putting the needle in but no 200mph in my arm and straight out of the docs

good job i asked for it in my left arm as i need my right for other things

If it does not improve then go back to your doctor. I tolerated a "sore arm" for a week as the nurse told me to expect it to be painful, even asking which arm I write with.
Turns out I had Celulitis and by the time I could not stand the pain I was very close to requiring hospital admission for IV antibiotics. I probably should have gone sooner!

One of the jabs I had as a kid at school got infected and the flesh all around turned black and started to rot. It didn't really hurt but smelt awful. The doctor put some chemical on it that burnt the rotten flesh away but left the living flesh. Just thought I'd share that

I have a funny taste in my mouth - 3hrs later. I seem to remember the same thing last year, but no adverse side effects as such, so all is well.

How effective is the flu jab? Once you've had the jab you can no longer get colds etc..?

I have a cold right now and the worst has gone....but that's what you pay for after waiting hours outside to see a recording of a TV show.

Typical - I get on my bike and cycle the mile and a half to the surgery for mine, then find that I have gone to the wrong practice cos they didn't tell me on the phone it would be at their other one - three miles away.
Now I have to rebook.

No, it is a FLU jab - it has nothing to do with colds.
There are over 60 strains of the common cold, and once you have had one you cannot get that one again, but with over 60 strains, two colds a year mean at least 30 years of getting colds.
The FLU jab protects against the FLU, as implied by it's name

Oh, and you cannot catch a cold from the weather. You catch a cold from picking up the virus from someone else, either by airborne particles or by transference via touch.
You can stand out in the rain all day long and you won't catch a cold.
Hypothermia or pneumonia perhaps, but not a cold.

if you have had swine flu, have you got immunity - ie you will not catch it again?

I believe that to be the case yes. Like most viruses, recovering from an infection enables your immune system to know how to fight it should you get infected again.

Having it can give you immunity, but since they stopped swabbing people there is no way to know whether it was actually swine flu you had. Also if the virus mutates, which they often do, then you can get it again.

im assuming it is likely to mutate slowly though, else there would be no point giving the jab

The advice is, is that unless it was confirmed in a lab that it was definitely Swine Flu you had, then you should still get the vaccine.

My friend had the swine flu jab because she's a nurse, she ended up with sickness and diahrrhoea for 2 days which is apparently one of the first symptoms of swine flu, and therefore a side effect of the jab.

She wishes she'd never had it now.

I had a sore arm for about 5 days after the seasonal flu jab, think it's fairly common.

OP - you shouldn't have been sent straight out of the surgery!
You have to wait for 15-20 mins in the waiting room in case you have a serious reaction to the vaccine (not just swine flu - its the same after ANY vaccination). It can take this amount of time for a systemic reaction to develop.
Not very good nursing practice by the sound of it!

My doctor advised me to use a cold flannel on my arm after my flu injection.

Unfortunately, I took a really bad reaction to it, and the sore arm was the least of my worries
