Head of BBC HD to go on Points Of View

I've just watched Points Of View (episode 2 on iplayer) and Jeremy Vine says that Danielle Nagler - head of BBC HD is going to be on in a couple of weeks.

Does that mean this sunday? Anyone a regular viewer of Points Of View?

I don't know, but hopefully she'll explain why the PQ is such rubbish now.
Has anyone started a petition about this yet?

So did you watch it? It's available on iplayer if you missed it.

We didn't learn anything new. And although she said the bitrate had been reduced she refused to accept it had any impact on picture quality.

She even waffled something about HD is not all about number of pixels, and a reduction in the number of pixels does not mean a reduction in quality. She said it's all about depth and vibrance or some such waffle.

She also said most viewers wouldn't notice a difference, only those looking for a problem would find anything wrong.

So she's saying the reduction in bitrate and quality is just fine.

So don't expect it to ever improve, and expect it to reduce further until enough people notice.

She said there might be a 2nd HD channel in time....

... that is if the BBC trust allows it ...

Has she?, I thought Top Gear was independently produced? (as most BBC programmes are).

shes a complete joke she should be sacked for running the channel the way she has, surely she would of had the final say regarding the reduced bitrate. As if jeremy vine was really gonna give her a grilling.

Might be her idea of HD tv - but it sure ain't mine!

I suppose her attitude is it is free, so what do you expect.

I propose she gets the sack and her salary is used to pay for extra bitrate - after all why do they need a head of HD (paid hundreds of thousands of £), it is only on for a few hrs a day.

Pretty sure it's an in-house production.

It always shows as BBC Birmingham at the end of the show, and I can remember reading a moan by Clarkson about having to go to the BBC at Pebble Mill Studios in Birmingham to film it.

It is MOST definately NOT free!

And if she thinks it looks anywhere near as good as it used to, then she is blind.

The BBC Head of HD is a fast-track Management trouble shooter who is tasked with implementing Senior Management decisions that are budget driven and include having the same bit-rate for all of the broadcast delivery mechanisms. She does not understand what HD can be and seems to have no interest in HD Picture Quality nor 5.1 sound. I hope she gets her next promotion soon [I accept her replacement could be even worse]

In addition she seems to have instructed Andy Quested to spend his time justifying their actions rather than continuing his past magnificent work that has seen BBC HD established as the benchmark of UK HD.

Such a shame.

I didn't bother watching, purely as I guessed she'd deny any drop in PQ.

She kept going on about a filmic look but surely, something on BBC HD with a filmic look would be similar to a film on Sky movies (when they get it right) ie. clear and well defined.

Her definition seems to involve a big reduction in resolution and dynamic range so that it looks the same on SD and HD. Criminal justice is the perfect example.
