ITV News getting a slightly new look?

Just noticed this on their Twitter...

Quote:
Brand realignment for ITVnews starting Monday
Anyone any idea if this is going to affect the onscreen presentation? And do we think it's to coincide with the website that seems to have been defunct for at least four months now!

Just searchd Twitter for ITV News and I think it's fair to say the new look isn't going down well.

Now I'd expect the type of person who'd tweet, let alone tweet about a new new set to be a critical type or person but there seriously isn't a positive comment on there.

The new look isn't the best though is it?

It's terrible, I don't understand what was wrong with the previous look, it was nice as blue not as yellow.

The studio is more darker now and the music is just bloody ridiculous. Change it back.

I wish STV would give it a new look

... by removing it from our screens!

im being honest. i actualy like the new look and music. it could have been done better though. it is about thme we went out of our cheap ways and took some inspiration from american studio design. the onscreen graphics are very tacky in this country too. especialy these itv ones.

That is not an American Studio Design; the ones before it were more American (Although I've only seen CNN US, Fox, BBC America and ABC.).
I hate the studio; it looks so barren and lifeless; you may as well have a cgi person since he/she adds nothing to the environment. I like the BBC's graphics and Channel 4 have the quality. If anything ITV News should have Americanised their London theme and had the whole David Letterman style going on.

It's pretty rubbish, from first impressions.

The old News At Ten intro and backdrop was amazing, why would they replace it for this naff set-up?

The London skyline also totally worked, and was quite beautiful.

Why do they insist on using that 'theatre of news' when it looks so fake? It's not like it's multi-purpose, whereas the BBC studios are.

ITV News at 10

Hugely disappointed at the NAT revamp. The graphics look like they were produced using one of those cheap early 3d rendering packages. Although they may have harked back to earlier times, the previous opening titles looked absolutely stunning, superb quality with great movement and powerful music behind. The black, white and yellow colours are lifeless and I cannot see how they are going to attract any more viewers (if that was the idea). If perhaps the idea was to draw in more younger viewers, most of the PS3 generation will be laughing at such unimpressive stuff. It's Primary School ICT standard.

The Theatre of News is no more.

And Ken, I agree, News at Ten should've stayed as it was.

I tend to watch the 5.30 am ITV News. The revamp allows us to see rather more of the lady presenter's bosom

But their number 1 aim of the new set was to have it not looking like a London focused program.

I thought was okay. But News at Ten should only be anchored by one person, preferably Julie Etchingham.

And ITV, please simulcast it in HD on ITV HD!!

I don't understand why they need to have a virtual set? They're based in a beautiful Sir Norman Foster designed building with loads of empty space in it.

They should be making use of what they already have. They could have done something like the Sky News set without having to build it, because it's already there.

As for the editorial of the bulletins it is like the producers of X Factor have been given a news bulletin to make.

Their piece yesterday about the baby who needed a load of money to go to America for medical treatment was horrifying.

It was nice that she'd raised the money, but I wonder who's bright idea it was to have Alexandra Burke phone up the mother to tell her that Simon Cowell had donated a load of cash? Burke broke into tears on one end of the phone call, the mother didn't and even ended up comforting Burke down the phone.

The reporter was clearly hoping for some tears from the mother but none came as she was a hard-as-nails Geordie.

It was horrible television let alone news.

Infuriatingly, the revamp plays into the hands of the many naysayers about ITV News, none of whom need any encouragement. The tacky, low-grade, poorly executed set and titles are now seized upon as 'evidence' of ITV's substandard news coverage. Crowbar in the appalling Alexandra Burke appearance and give the malcontents a full house. The thoroughly worthy, incisive reporting from Afghanistan and Somalia can then be conveniently overlooked.

I just cannot fathom the rationale for this. Brand synchronisation does mean mimicking the presentation idents in the news programmes. ITV had already achieved a strong brand for its news coverage by creating something distinctive, but in-keeping. Most outrageously of all, the strongest brand of the lot, News At Ten, is all but lost - again! NAT didn't require an overhaul, but promotion - something which it hasn't enjoyed since the early days of its return last year.

The last crop of sets were visually stunning. They weren't London-focussed as such, they merely reflected the obvious fact the news is presented from the capital. I can't imagine anyone being alienated by that fact. The news set has no impact, is disjointed, makes far too much use of panning and excludes the viewer by virtue of its oversized, oddly-shaped desk. The music is weak and the titles are non-sensical, because they include stills from stories which haven't yet been introduced in the headlines.

Why do this, ITV? What's wrong with you?

Two people twittered that the ITV Lunchtime presenter wished them a "good weekend" today.

Yes, a slight slip from Mr. Stewart, but he quickly corrected himself.
I don't think it was as a result of the new look.
