Bring Back Fame Academy

With Strictly viewing figures dropping and the percieved trendynessof the X Factor setup, maybe now would be a good time to re-launch Fame Academy.

In fact, it could easily run during the summer months or during the week so as not to conflict with Strictly.

Although Sat nights are ratings nights, we do watch on other nights too. So a Fame Academy night on a Thursday say, would probably do quite well. I'm sure American Idol is a weekday showin the states??

We have quite enough 'talent' shows already IMO. I think they should all be put to bed for a couple of years to give us a bit of a change/break!

I suppose the BBC feels there's no point trying to compete with The X Factor, but I actually preferred Fame Academy.

The good thing about Fame Academy was that the students did write their own song for the final.

If they were to bring it back, it would need a huge revamp because it wasn't slick, exciting or glossy. It was a typical BBC entertainment show.

The French (Star Academy) and Spanish (Operacion Triunfo) versions are what the show should aspire to.

The fact it had more to do with music rather than just singing was what set this apart from X Factor/Pop Idol.

The live streaming from the house was pretty cool - you could watch the vocal training, dance training etc

Would be nice to see it back.

Except they are not really, they are still very good and holding up pretty well. Reports of SCD's death are greatly exaggerated.

I hate all of these ITV X-Factor Idol-type talent shows, but there was something different about Fame Academy - especially the first series. It was so much more about nurturing talent, including song writing, and seeing them develop rather than some grand karaoke competition.

I think we have an overkill of 'talent' reality TV shows already.

Add to that the fact the Fame Academy winners were extremely forgettable.

Fame Academy was a great show. Recall the 24/7 showing were you could see the rehersals and the song writing classes, kevin's cherography and excersise classes, meals etc. Please get the show back on BBC.

After the fiasco of the second series final i dont think that show will ever be back again. I think the show was really tarnished by the desperate attempts to get Alex to win and fairness and decency went out the window.

I think you will find Lemar has had a pretty successful career since appearing on Fame Academy.

It might only be one that has actually made it, but he has had 4 decent albums out.

What's the point when the winners disappear quickly into obscurity like, erm... her with the spiky hair, and erm... him with them.. umm... sparkling personality?

"Help Sainsburys find a shelf stacker" would be a more accurate show title

ironically enough he was not given a recording contract via fame academy, carrie the vocal judge raised this a few years ago. he got signed elsewhere and quite rightly, whatever happened to ashley and ainslie as well?

4 of other acts did and they are nowhere now.

I'd love to see this come back, but it would have to have a much bigger budget like the French version.

Sinead is still around - and certainly not stacking shelves. Just because they aren't topping the charts doesn't mean they aren't earning a living.

She was my favourite. I even paid real money for her album.

He did not need Fame Academy to get a recording contract, as he was talented enough, I guess him being a part of this just highlighted the fact.

If you think about all these reality shows, then not really many have made it, even if they do win, as the X Factor and Pop Idol winners, it is only really Leona Lewis and Will Young that have had any lengthy career, by that I mean more than one album.

I know Girls Aloud came from a show like this, but I was on about solo artists, as a majority seem to get dropped by the record label, as Steve Brookstein, Shane Ward and Leon Jackson have hardly had major success since winning, Gareth Gates has hardly been a major success although I know he did not win, Michelle Mcmanus won but hardly did a thing since and was not heard of since the single she released on the back of winning the show.

I think the frenzy that these shows have when a contestant wins is crazy.

Bring back - Opportunity Knocks.

Don't think Hughie Green is doing much these days.
