Paul O'Grady has moaned about BBC TV Centre, which is interesting considering his show has been made at both studios.
Also if BBC TV Centre TC1 was such a great studio, why is the Graham Norton show made at the London Studios.

You don't need TC1 for Graham Norton's show. His production company probably got a better deal from London Studios.

Because it's made on Thursday?

I'm not sure TLS would have the capacity to film Harry Hill on top of everything else.

Already every Thursday, TLS is handling:
Graham Norton
Have I Got News For You
Loose Women
GMTV
This Morning
Al Jazeera
and every other week, Europa League Football for ITV4.

I actually dont think this is a BBC vs ITV thing, and shame on some people on this forum for trying to turn it into one.

Indeed, it's just what's available at the time, and prices.

Titchmarsh and Golden Balls are also made for ITV at TC. I was not aware the London Studios had any HD capability while TC has four HD studios.

Its a big irrelevant now given that bigger shows such as DOI and The X Factor are made in other studios. Neither the BBC or ITVs facilities are big enough now to handle the biggest shiny floor shows.

I've often wondered do BBC exec's get to see the ITV shows being recorded in TC and vice versa? If there was something particularly sensational in the recording wouldn't that give them so inside info into what the competition is up to?

Both of the studios have their own unique atmosphere.

TLS just makes you think about all those classic weekend shows.

tc makes you think of comedy

With regards making ITV shows in TVC, the first one if memory serves me right was 'Talking Telephone Numbers'.

This was a Celador production for Carlton and came from TC1 in Television Centre then live to ITV via BT Tower.

This later moved to Fountain at Wembley.

One thing the BBC made very clear was there would be no mention of the BBC in the credits.

A quick scan of the credits for vision mixer, camera supervisor and lighting director showed any TVC sourced programme if you knew the names to look out for.

There was a lot of fuss at the time from the management at TVC.

This was part of John Birts 'Producer's Choice' in the the early 90's where producers could choose their own facilities. Likewise one of the first programmes to come back the other way was 'What the papers say', made by Granada for BBC.

Same applies to anywhere a programme is made - confidentiallity.

You're confused. 'What the papers say' was a direct BBC commission to ITV to produce a programme for the BBC.

'Talking telephone numbers' was an independent (Celador) production commissioned by ITV from an independent producer who just happened to choose the BBC for its production facilities. The two circumstances are not the same at all.

The London Studios has a very large production studio fully equipped for HD, with another one due to be completed over the new year.

Titchmarsh and Golden Balls both mention BBC Studios in their credits. Worth pointing out the BBC also makes programmes for STV at Pacific Quay in Glasgow and will have huge studio capacity when Salford comes on line in 2011.

Has there been any HD shows made there?

The last Sky HD show made there, that I'm aware of, was Don't Forget the Lyrics, but that was done as an OB.

That was over a year ago, before the new HDVTR area was built.

Yes, but the observant may have noticed that The BBC Graham Norton show moved into the largest studio at TLS, so perhaps BBC TVC TC1 or 2 may have been considered.

But are they using studio 1 at TLS because they need the space or because the other studios were already full?

I think price might enter into it as well.

On a purely aesthetic note I believe TVC is a more beautiful building than TLS.
Pity the BBC seems hell bent on knocking it into the ground.
