Garrow's Law - sounds good?

http://www.radiotimes.com/ListingsSe...s_fullpage.jsp

But up against DocM, so probably won't get the viewers it sounds as though it deserves?

I'm really looking forward to this. I love anything that is based on true accounts so this sounds very interesting.

No new shows will ever be able to really compete with Doc Martin, but if it can hold up around the 4-5m mark then it will be doing quite well.

I'm in a bit of a dilemma about this as I love Andrew Buchan but hate period dramas.

Yes, it does look good - but sometimes "looking good" does not always translate ito actually being good. S o we will have to see.

Although Alun Armstrong is always a good addition to any cast list.

I read a review that said it was like a modern day drama done in fancy dress so not sure really

Looking good so far. No free legal aid then. The poor had no chance and the punishments were woeful.

Not sure. A bit "formal" for my tastes.

LA Law meets City of Vice.

City of Vice was better IMO.

City of Vice was better IMO.

It wasn't scummy enough for my liking, and a tad predictable.

Good stuff. I see the BBC cutbacks are biting here too - Only 4 episodes.

I thought it was good. Shows just how bad the judicial system was at that time, and indeed how generally callous society was.

Indeed - what the Daily Mail would call "traditional Victorian values"

I enjoyed it. After the squeaky clean, prettied-up view of Regency life that we saw in Emma, this showed how brutal and unfair life was for the less fortunate.

I could have done without that distracting orchestra scaping away in the background.

I have yet to watch it, but maybe that's how the stories pan out?

I thought it took quite a while to get going, but I'm glad I stuck with it for the hour (very nearly didn't) as the final scenes where he was defending the woman whose baby had died were excellent.

Good point, though I enjoyed Emma for what it was.

I really liked the drama - I must admit I'd never heard of William Garrow before the pre- publicity for this series, so I'm looking forward to learning about somebody who on the face of it seems to be a bit of a forgotten hero.

Also, trying to think of an actor who has played 2 such contrasting lead roles in one year i.e. The Fixer v. Garrow?

4.46m viewers overnight, which is pretty reasonable, given the opposition. It'll be interesting to see how it does in two weeks time, when not up against Doc Martin (but what will be in its place, IAC?)
