What is the point in Bargain hunt

i have never understood it both teams get given £300 and then spend it then at the end most times they make a loss therefore losing all the money and they still have a laugh at the end its ridiculous

The point of it is to fill a few moments of airtime in the middle of the day, and maybe distract the housebound, unemployed, and students from thoughts of suicide for a time. I find it has the opposite effect on me.

Like most daytime TV, the purpose appears to be to make me want to go back to work if I'm off sick.

As a Bargain Hunt fan (well, I watch it while I'm having my lunch), it seems to me that there's a better chance of making a profit if the auction's in Glasgow where the prices appear to be higher. Some of the auction houses seem to have very few buyers, and pretty mean ones at that.

It fills 45 minutes.

Cash in the attic seems to be designed to strip a family of assets which often they would better of keeping rather than spend the money on something pretty trivial.

I've been on BH with my best mate. We made a profit on every item we bought! Still wasn't really in it for the money,(good job 'cos it wasn't much) it was great fun, a look behind the scenes at a BBC show and Tim Wonnacot is a very lovely man.

I was on BH in the David Dickinson days. I applied because I was hoping I would get an all expenses paid weekend away. How naive was I! Only went 30 miles down the road, and spent most of the time waiting around - it was so boring!

One thing I think about Bargain Hunt is that when they make a profit, they get to keep it, so surely when they make a loss they should have to get their wallets out. Might disuade them from buying such crap half the time!

I don't know how many years BH has been on but every time I stumble across it they always seem to make a loss at the auction. It would be interesting (not really) to know how much of a loss has been made over the years.

Buy from a market stall and sell at an auction = loss
Buy from an auction and sell at a market stall = profit

I think I have an idea for a new show.

You are spot on. The problem with this programme is (in a nutshell) they buy retail and sell wholesale.
It's like going to your local corner shop, buying ten bags of sugar then trying to flog them at a cash and carry.

Apart from the entertainment factor of the show, it is extremely informative. It can also be quite interesting to see what certain items will sell for, and goes to prove that not even the experts can get it right all of the time.

If you have an interest in antiques, whether professionally or as a hobby, this programme will be on your viewing calendar.

Tim Wonnacott is an excellent host.

I've seen them filming it a few times, especially at the East of England showground.
They are pissing off more and more of the stall holders. Partially because more people are asking for money off but mainly because they block the already thin aisles, they stop people getting to their (and surrounding stalls) whilst they are filming and they keep trying to knock down the price even more because the stallholder doesn't want to look like a tight git on tv.

I'd much rather see someone go round places like Snoopers in Brighton and then try and sell it on. Why not incorporate Ebay into it? Someone sells something in an auction, someone on Ebay and they see (after costs, which never gets properly mentioned) who can make the most money!

The programme is a relatively cheap daytime tv filler.

But I could never see the point of buying things at "retail" and then hoping to make a profit selling it at an auction, where most of the bidders want to buy stuff..and sell it on at "retail."

Me too! And I echo your sentiments. We won £13 (gave it to chari-dee mate!)

Bargain Hunt has no point, it's just a pleasant interlude at lunchtime.

Another Tim Wonnacott fan here, he's absolutely lovely.

I totally agree. I reckon you could easily make a profit buying at some auctions and selling at others like in Glasgow. I enjoy the programme. It's must see TV !

Why makes you think students would think of suicide over a TV show Girth?

Bargain Hunt with Tim is so much better. He's eccentric, knowledgable about his stuff and never afraid to slag anything off when he sees it.

Also, it's hilarious when he says "awf"and "jobby".
