Postal Strike and Pre Orders

HI All this is my frist time posting a thread and I have taken a look to see if there already one which discusses the above topic but did find one.

Has anyone pre ordered a game and then royal mail decied to strike near the release date?

for the 1st time I have pre ordered MW2 now with the postal strike I am not sure if I will get it on time should I cancel my order and pick it up at ASDA or should I wait? I will not be happy if i dont get my copy of MW2 untill the 13th Nov

I pre ordered Football Manager 2010 weeks ago.

It was dispatched the day before the release date and I'm still waiting thanks to those pesky postmen.

It all depends on how desperate for the game you are. If you can save a few quid, but will happily wait an extra few days then do it online. If you're twtiching come release date...get yourself down there!

It depends on where you order it from some are sending out early some are changing delivery methods. I have ordered Borderlands from Zavvi and theat came on the Tuesday before the Friday release date. I also ordered Forza 3 from Amazon and that came the day after release on the Saturday. I know Shopto, game, gamestation, gameplay and a few others are advising you to use a different service which cost slightly extra usually £1.99-£2.99 for delivery to go with a different company but be aware you have to sign for some of these and there depots may not be easy to get to if you are not in to recieve the parcel when originally out for delivery.

Its discussed in the game topics themselves. Particularly the MW2 thread.

DONT RISK IT. If you can get a ParcelForce, HOME Delivery Network, UK Mail, UPS or other Courier to deliver, then select that.

If you select Royal Mail, then your asking to be let down.

I'm waiting on buzz: Quiz world from play.com

It was released on Friday and was despatched on that day too. I think I'm more annoyed at play for only despatching on release day though as it had been in "packing" all week.

I preordered PES 2010 on PS2 from Game. It's coming out Friday but if the postmen go on strike again then I have to wait.

My FM10 was despatched on Wednesday and arrived today. Longer than normal, but I was pretty happy considering the poor service others are seeing.

Yes I'd steer well clear from ordering online, unless it states the courier is Parcel Force or another company *other* than Royal Mail. Apparently there is a back log of post as well, so even if this strike dispute is cleared up, I doubt they will catch up with the regular post anytime soon.

I know the likes of GAME are using alternative couriers since the postal strike, so pre ordering items from them might be the best bet. Although I would email them and find out for definate before you place your order just in case

I've preordered MW2 from shopto and selected UK Mail as delivery for an extra £1.99 as I dont wanna end up with it weeks after its been released and all the yanks will have ranked up and prestiged about 50 thousand times cos they will live on the game. I'd at least like to be in with a fighting chance when I play

I've just had an email from HMV saying my Modern Warfare 2 is in the post with a delivery time of 1 - 3 days. Seems that it will be here early regardless of what Activision has said.

Places always ship early in time for delivery. GAME and gamestation orders usually arrive the day before release date. With the postal strikes places may post them even earlier so i wouldn't be surprised to see people get copies before Monday even if Activision say don't do it.

I've preordered with gamestation. GAME and gamestation aren't using Royal Mail they are upgrading every MW2 preorder to free courier delivery(though it doesn't state which courier)

They started processing orders already.

Don't hold out any luck of getting my copy of Modern Warfare 2 ontime. Coolshop are still sending by Royal Mail, unless you pay £1.99 extra for express delivery.

I bought it with them to save a few quid so I can't be arsed to pay extra for delivery so will just have to wait and see.

I work for Gamestation head office (but deal with some GAME orders too), and all orders are going to be shipped out via courier free of charge (I suggest if you have already paid for courier to give us a call after you've received your order so we can refund you the price for express delivery). We will be using Parcelforce, so no orders should be late!
Also a quick note to say that a lot of customers pre-ordered way back in Feb/Mar time and since we only take the money out within the week prior to the dispatch date, their orders have often been rejected due to lack of funds or out-of-date bank cards. I'd give your emails a quick check to make sure this hasn't happened to you!

Can you shed any light on when we will get them? My order from Game has been shipped and is currently at the Parcelforce National Hub, so does this mean it will get here before the end of the week? Or do they hold onto it at the hub until a specific date so it gets here just on time?

That's stupid - if they can't dispatch early, no-one's gonna recieve them on time, so there's no point pre-ordering, you may as well buy it in person in the shop on release day. If they do stop dispatching orders early, maybe we should all boycott Activision.

As long as you get it on the day of release then there should not be any hassle at all. The main thing is you will get it on the release day, from the company of your choice and at the price you wanted to pay. No point sitting crying like a baby just because they wont give you it early.
