EE: What do you think/hope Kirkwood will do? - Soaps

We all know Bryan Kirkwood will be taking over from Santer as Executive Producer next year. What do all EE fans think he will do to leave his mark on the show?

I hope we get at least one new family, a new owner for the Vic, and a decent exit for Peggy Mitchell.

The cast is very strong at the moment, so I hope we don't see too many departures. However, I think the following will probably be axed: Jack, Minty, Manda, Adam, Darren, Libby.

I want him to fix the day to day episodes. Santer was very good at the explosive ones that came around every few months but his ordinary ones only reached a level of average to well below average. He needs to make sure that when nothing much is happening onscreen the episodes aren't boring and just feel like they're wasting time until the big ones.

Also the overexposure of certain characters. Once one becomes popular (Stacey, Tanya and Ronnie) from one big storyline it doesn't mean we have to be force fed them every episode for what feels like years on end. Give characters decent amount of breaks from screen.

Also axe Jack! He is a useless pisshole.

I Think: He'll bring a bunch of talentless Hollyoaks styled actors in.

I want him to axe Jack Branning. I want him to kill Jack Branning off. I want his funeral to be a big street party with everyone in the Square coming together and going wild with excitement.

Would be lovely wouldn't it.

I expect to see at least one new family and with Larry, Barbara, Daniella and Jo all leaving in the coming months that frees up four slots. I'm not sure what I'd go for though - a nuclear family, all-female family or all-male family? Maybe not another all-female family as that would bring in comparisons to the original Slater sisters and personally I like the idea of an all-male family coming into the show.

I also hope he casts Zoe Lister as a student-type or something similar.

Ok one not all the actors were talentless yes there are a few but allot of people who dont watch the show dont realise that there is a decent amount talent there.

Secondly Why would he deliberately cast talentless actors?

And finally the job of casting actors in a soap isnt of the producer but the casting director.

Alot of people have been saying that they're worried that BK is going to bring in a load of young students in and make it 'teeny'.

But I think the show could use a few more young cast members, because to be fair, who actually gives a hoot about the older cast members such as Ian, Pat, Patrick ect.. ?

It needs a bit of spice and something a bit fresh because I've watched EE for 10 years and for the past few months I have been questionning why I am still watching, it's got boring. Can't wait to see what he does.

But let's start by getting rid of the boring ones such as Jack, Minty, Billy... ect..

Re-cast Ben Mitchell, potential for character but not for Charlie Jones
Introduce a new "normal" family a father, mother, 1 son and 1 daughter
Get rid of Jack, Libby, Darren
Focus a bit more on talented actors like Diane Parish, Laurie Brett, Perry Fenwick, Linda Henry
Introduce a new group of about 5 students
Tone down on Santer's Ronnie/Jack/Tanya/Max/Stacey cycle of big storylines
Find a way to bring back Cindy and Kathy Beale

the show is definatly in need of some decent 18-25 year old characters - i don't get why people keep saying he will just bring in teens, he only did that because that is what HO is associated with, it is a soap for a younger audience, he will know what ee is and what works on it, and if they didn't think he was capable they would not have given him the job - i for one think this will be a great era for ee.

As long as he doesn't make it more like that crap called Hollyoaks, I will be happy. So please don't fill it with a lot of young people, albert square isn't a bloody student area.

I think he knows that he worked on Corrie for years before but didn't start filling Hollyoaks full of old people as soon as he moved.

Axe the Slaters,

sort out the abysmal running order of the show,

make sure characters have a backstory,

sack the awful jack branning,

end the dominance of the mitchells,

axe the sean slater mark 2 joke that is whitney's brother,

axe boring janine,

ensure the savings from cutting cast salaries are ploughed back into the production to ensure a move to HD is sooner than later,

well thats my wish list.

One. A few good actors, don't overpower the majority of bad ones.

Two. Sure...

Three. He still ultimately would have the final stay if they stayed, or went. People try to remove too much fault for the EPs.

Me, Pat (when she in it) and Patrick are among my favourite characters, they not overexposed, so you don't get annoyed with them.

The majority of HO actors aren't bad there are a few bad yes but there is also a few bad ones on all soaps.

He does have the final say but its still not his main job to cast actors audition them ect..

And what do you even mean by sure?

I'll agree to disagree, most soaps have more good than bad, Hollyoaks is the other way around.

If bad actors join, and he doesn't get rid, it's his fault.

Think List

Explosions and other big stunts will be better as there has been good ones in his era of Hollyoaks.
Great storylines overall.
He may reduce the overall cast very slightly down to 50.
Good storylines with the young ones because they were good in Hollyoaks.

Wish List

He brings back history characters like Santer, but not as much as Santer did.
Re-cast Ben Mitchell. Good character, awful actor.
Fix the normal episodes. Santer did do good dramatic ones but not normal ones.
Keep bringing in good actors like Santer.
A good big exit for Peggy
